Favourite city managers

Brian Horton will always be in my top 5 City managers . He did a brilliant job keep us up that 1993-1994 season . And we played some good football under him . We wouldn't have gone down in 1995-1996 season under Horton .

I can't believe the number of posters that are excluding Joe Royle from their lists.

He played for us, turned the club around; gave us one of our ever greatest moments; bought, stood by and nurtured a genuine club icon in the Goat; left the club in a much better state than he found it and has never slagged the club or its supporters off.

I also feel he appreciated what makes this club and its supporters tick far more than some of the other managers that are being advanced.

Great fella big joe!!

He did, mate.

Peter Reid was a poor manager . He wouldn't be in my top 5 . The 5 million he spent on Phelan and Curle could have been spent better . Plus he bought the slowest winger ever Rick Holden .

But City were in the top 5 two seasons running!
Admittedly he carried on the good work set out by Kendall but he maintained it the following season.

Horton's record of 17th and 17th (think there was 22 teams in the league then) doesnt look well, but the circumstances around that with the Swales out / Forward with Franny thing was hugely unsettling - and as said, the football was great with Beagre, Walsh, Rosler, Quinn.
The 5-2 Spurs game being one example.
But then there was 5-0 at the Swamp :(

Joe felt very hard done to by city. That year we were back in the premier league he had a hip replacement and, I think, his wife got cancer. I might be wrong about the specifics of it but I know he felt betrayed by city. He felt after what he'd done he deserved a chance to take us back to the premier league.,
