Favourite opening day matches and memories?

Home to blackpool, 1998, first game in division 2. Sunny day and everyone was surprised to see a full house. Won 3-0 and surely we were going to storm to the league title.
Remember Michael Brown throwing some tickets out of a minibus to me and my mates stood outside the offy that day.
Great atmosphere

Wimbledon away in 84 at Plough Lane, didn't a load of 'friendly' Chelsea fans (who played earlier in the day from memory?) try to get into the away section? That might have been Wimbledon's first ever game in the old 2nd Division I seem to remember.
A couple of years later in what was defo 'the Wombles' their first ever game in the top flight, we beat them 3:0 at Maine Road on the opening day. That day they crammed the Platt Lane with an incredibly impressive travelling contingent of about 150 ish!!

Sorry for a being a **** but I think it was 3 1 , they went 1 up and cometh the hour cometh the man , fucking Trevor Christie

Derby County away 79 drew 1-1 I remember saying to my dad why is everyone laughing at the end of those songs about Tommy doc?

17/18 vs Brighton even though we only had two new signings (Walker,Danilo). It felt like a refreshed team after the disappointing 16/17 season.

Palace at home in 1979. I remember approaching the match with considerable trepidation given that we'd sold so many of our best players over the summer, and the 0-0 draw we managed that day was a bit inconclusive in terms of what it seemed to promise for the future. On the one hand, we hadn't lost, but on the other, the newly promoted looked the better side.

But more than that, it was my tenth birthday. We picked up my then-favourite meal, a Chinese takeaway, on the way home. Mum had baked me a chocolate birthday cake, while in my parents decided I was old enough to be allowed to stay up for Match of the Day that evening. I recall my dad saying that the highlights made City look far more dominant in the game than was actually the case.

At that age, a City match at Maine Road in front of more than 40,000 with a passable result followed by the rest of the festivities represented as exciting a day as I could have had if I'd scripted it myself. I wish I was still so easily pleased!

West Ham away under Sven was a great opening day. All the new signings (Elano, Petrov, Bianchi, Bojinov, Garrido) plus a core of youth players (Richards, Onuoha, Johnson, Ireland) made for such a exciting, promising team. A welcome new style of play after the truly dire Pearce era.
Kasper in goal. That season started so good
