Re: Manchester City Council Loan FC United £550K and.....

I've just edited my OP as i originally thought that FCUM would ''only'' be charged £1000 a year to lease the 12,5 acres......
Just re-read the bit below - and it turns out the lease is £1 a year - for 12.5 acres!!!
The council are taking a £999 a year loss AND loaning them £550K!!

Any leasehold disposal to FC United will require the surrender of the existing lease
between the City Council and the Trustees of Moston Juniors Football Club. The rent
reserved under this lease is £1,000 per annum. This lease is due to expire in 2032.
On surrender of Moston Juniors lease the City Council will cease to receive the rent
of £1,000 per annum.
Given the specialist nature of the proposed development, Corporate Property has
sought valuation advice from a suitably qualified and experienced independent
Valuer as well as undertaking its own valuation. Assuming the planning consent, the
restriction to community use and the obligation to build the facilities, the lease is
valued at £1.

Haven't we benefited from the council? Bit hypocritical to have a go?

No, they've benefited from us.

that is true. the council never put a penny into our stadium i think. the money came from lottery funding with us paying to convert it. the council get a nice fat wedge in rent though

Slight difference. City - having contributed financially to the council for over 100 years and moved onto a derelict brownfield site - the Commonwealth Games wouldn't have happened if City hadn't agreed to move in. City helped develop a brownfield eyesore, turning this into a venture that has subsequently benefited Manchester city council, council tax payers and yes MCFC and will continue to do so for many years to come.
City also gave the council the site at Maine Road that they then sold to developers. The council made further profit from the deal.

FCUM have never been in Manchester and never previously contributed financially to the council. Yet now the council give FCUM a green field that local people object to seeing lost forever - and give a whole 12.5 acres to FCUM for £1 per year rent!!!!
And then give them a loan (in times when essential services are being cut left, right and centre) of £550,000.
Where is Manchester city council benefiting in this? Where are council tax payers benefiting in this? Certainly FCUM are benefiting in this.

That's the difference. With City everyone is benefiting.... in Moston, only one party is benefiting.

You know more about it than me obviously. Surely the council see some future benefit?

the council have been 'sold' the community benefits..... that people in the area will have access to a sports physio, the astroturf, community rooms that local people can hire, the club house that local people can hire and Moston Juniors will have changing facilities.
All except the latter are already available in different parts of Moston / north Manchester.

What is also missing from the community benefits is what the cost of these is going to be no one has been told, will the community be able to afford it ?

Or will the community want it? As I said, all the facilities they will have on offer are already available in the area with the exception of Moston Juniors FC having a changing facility.
