Just had email confirmation that this will be in the MEN tomorrow (Thursday) - hopefully big time against the council's ridiculous actions over this issue.

The most telling thing for me on this thread is there have been no comments from FCUM fans (usually it is AndyFCUM crawling all over the thread defending the club / accusing me of spreading lies....) - their silence is deafening!!!!!

I think you'll be disappointed if you're after a negative piece on this from the MEN, from what I've seen of their coverage so far they've been very pro-FCUM and have made every attempt to belittle, marginalise and misrepresent those opposed to the decision.

We haven't been holding our breath - you are correct in the MEN has been very pro FCUM, always reporting that our opposition is based around house prices and litter and parking - rather than the main reason being the loss of green open spaces and the fact that it is just not suitable to have the stadium in that built up area - and always giving FCUM the last word without asking those against to comment on anything coming from the FCUM camp.
However - on this occasion, we are expecting the council to get a rough ride - giving over half a million quid in a loan to a business (with no equity) and giving 12.5 acres in return for £1 a year lease, when at the same time cutting services to the minimum.... I think if the MEN tries to dress this up in cotton wool they will have misjudged the story badly...... still it hasn't gone in the MEN yet.... so maybe the journo's are being wined and dined by the council as we speak!

Re: Manchester City Council Loan FC United £550K and.....

I've emailed MUEN about this and also tried posting a question on Pete Spencers (pointless) webchat. Not a peep.

Either there is no foundation to this story or MUEN and the Council are squirming big time.

Mad Eye, tried to PM you but for some reason wouldn't let me.

I am good mates with the northern reporter for the Sun. Can certainly put you in touch as like any Sun reporter he'll be in there like swim wear if there is a sniff of a story about councils wasting money.

PM me if you want the details.

Think it is because I am on my mobile.

They do political stuff if they can dumb it down to the masses. Add a football theme to councils wasting money and hey presto a bit of interest.

Re: Council 'Bail Out' FC United - today's paper (see page 6)

Today's North East Manchester Advertiser.
<a class="postlink" href="http://menmedia.co.uk/northeastmanchesteradvertiser/news/s/1471322_manchester-councils-500000-bail-out-for-fc-uniteds-new-stadium-in-moston" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://menmedia.co.uk/northeastmanchest ... -in-moston</a>

Cash-strapped Manchester council has agreed to lend FC United up to £500,000 to build their controversial new ground.

Town hall chiefs stepped in after it emerged the club had failed to raise enough money to pay for the £4.5m stadium in Moston.

FC United planned to have generated £1.6m through a community share scheme towards the cost. But so far only £1.4m has been pledged by fans.

Now the council has stepped in with a promise to bridge the funding gap if the extra money is not raised.

The town hall will also cover any overspend, up to a limit of £500,000 – provided the club comes up with a ‘robust’ plan to pay the money back, with interest.

The promise comes on top of a £750,000 grant the council is already making towards the stadium. Council bosses stressed the money would be a loan, to be repaid in full, that would guarantee an ‘important’ development could go ahead.

Mike Patillo, who campaigned against the stadium, said: "I think it’s amazing that they can find half a million pounds when they’ve cut Sure Start budgets and they are closing down libraries."

The loan was agreed at a meeting of the town hall’s exectuve committee this week. Councillors also agreed to lease the club the land, on Ronald Johnson Playing Fields, for rent of £1 per year. FC United have made it clear they still want to raise the extra £200,000 themselves.

They have relaunched the community share scheme, which gives local people the chance to invest in the club. The stadium, which has proved highly divisive, was granted planning permission in October.

Mike Amesbury, the council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: "Any loan to FC United would be at commercial rates, with interest, and not cost the council or council taxpayers a penny.

"What it would do is enable this important development to go ahead. The partnership between FC United and Moston Juniors, one of the largest junior football clubs in Manchester will create the basis for an excellent sporting hub in North Manchester. "

Andy Walsh, general manager of FC United, said: "The club welcomes the decision of the executive committee. There is still an outstanding grant from the Football Foundation to be processed.

"There is still a way to go but we are confident that we can raise the money needed to provide much-needed investment in Moston."

IF YOU ARE APPALLED BY THIS DECISION, PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE AFTER THE ARTICLE (SEE ABOVE LINK)

Re: Council 'Bail Out' FC United - today's paper (see page 6)

Been informed that the MEN will carry a slightly different piece in tomorrow's paper - still against the loan from the council :)
Will post the link in the morning.

Also had a quick look on the FCUM fans forum and not a lot of happy posters there!!
Many complaining they only get to hear about things via the MEN and others going mad at the headline in the Advertiser with the ''bail out'' wording! lol

Re: Council 'Bail Out' FC United - today's paper (see page 6)

MEN have finally run this story.

Andy Walsh and his bunch of half witted 1970's hooligan throwbacks are looking even more stupid than ever this morning.

Already despised by genuine rags for showing all the loyalty of rats on a sinking ship, these tools are lunging from one comedy disaster to another.

First they set up FC United of Manchester in....Bury and then standing firm to their principles and beliefs by walking away from debt riddled ManU they promptly set about saddling their breakaway club with debt. What will they do next walk away from FC United to set up a breakaway club from the breakaway club.

Someone should make a film about these clowns, it would be a laugh a minute. Lee Evans would be perfect to play the bellend that goes by the name of Andy Walsh.

Re: Council 'Bail Out' FC United - today's paper (see page 6)

I missed the part of my council tax breakdown that says "payment for group of middle aged men who want to play real life football manager"

I would like to raise the bid to £1.50 for a state of the art garden where I will be hosting a bouncy castle with jelly and ice cream to celebrate a day which is likely to happen around May this year
