Don't think fenders haven't been improved upon. You can throw a lot of money at a luthier to custom build something better in nearly every measurable way. Even a lot of cheap copies are as good. Fender themselves licence Japanese and Mexican built versions that some people prefer. What fender did do was dominate the market with good if not spectacular product that recording engineers understand because they are part of the sound of pop music from 1950 to now.Apparently Fender have had their best sales ever this year.
