Fender guitars.

As an FOC, I played bass in a few bands in the late 70's and early 80's.

My first bass was made from cardboard and chewing gum I think but the I bought ny first proper bass, a Gibson Grabber with a sliding pickup. Bought it from Rock Island in Oldham but probabaly should have made a better choice. Then sold the Grabber and bought a Precision (black with maple neck) and loved it completely.

Mid 80's my son came along and all things considered my Precision, Marshall 100w amp and Marshall 4 x 12 cab had to go but with no regret as my new life was obviously more important.

Fast forward to 2010, and I'm grown up and money worries weren't a major part of my life so I started thinking back to the basses I'd always loved but I could never afford. In the last few years I have now bought, Rickenbacker 4003 in sunburst, Precision in black with maple neck, Fender Jazz Deluxe natural with maple neck and the star of the show a Musicman Stingray black with maple neck.

You might have noticed I like maple neck and Leo Fender designs (Leo designed the Musicman range)

If you are interested inbuying a Musicman Bass, also buy a course in your local gym because it is fooking heavy!!

I’d say what you have there is pretty close to the holy grail of bass guitar collections there. I like the brightness the maple brings. Heavy too, I like the weight.
Gibson grabber, a couple of manufacturers tried the moving pickup over the years. The grabber had the rails concealed under the pick guard if I remember. It’s always strange seeing a Gibson with a maple board.
I recently acquired a Sire Marcus Miller V3 Bass for home recordings. I wanted a fender jazz but just a tad too pricey for my use. I’m pleasantly surprised by the Sire. Tone and playability are very good and it’s not as chunky as a fender so easier for a guitarist like myself to play comfortably.
Also have you ever tried G&L basses? They’re designed by a Leo Fender too. I love the way after he sold Fender to CBC he kept reinventing himself with just as successful ranges of instruments.
