We’re going to find it hard to replace him.

I think a lot said similar about Yaya for years. Fernandihno is good, but he isn't special. He is key to what we do and has had some fantastic games, bit I can see potential for more from that position.

He like most on our team are currently playing the best football at their positions. This is not too disimilar to Sarri and lots of his players. The system helps the players.

I see enough potential in some decent players to match Dihno's current performance and their are a few names I believe will eclipse him while playing the position slightly differently.

Sure, but they aint mid table players, most of our players are class and do fit on top of the league. Fernandinho i expect will be replacable, but it will require a player of similar class and those typically will go for a lot of money. Fern is rather all round class at his position, not just a very good defender but also a quite good defensive playmaker imho. Good options likely will be limited.

Never mind he's a world class holding midfielder, the backbone of our team and all that. The way he so effortlessly floats around the pitch in his majestic way is so incredibly great to watch. Pure class.

I think you massively underrated him tbh, there are very few all round players like him that constantly put in 7 or 8/10 performances. Not hard to see why Pep loves him.

How often do you see the likes of Kante and Matic ping a 40 yard ball over the top of a defence for a striker to head in.

I think I rate him quite fine. I'd put him in the Premier 11 with Silva, Debryune, Sterling, Otamendi and Walker as shoe ins. With Delph, and Eddie dangerously close too.

I just don't think he is uniquely special. Clearly the system has made him look great. He's always been a very good player... He he isn't so special that he'd be hard to replace. Why do I believe this?

Simples. Watch Dihno from last season. He wasnt half this good. So clearly learning the system helped his game. There are equally talented players who can do the same.

I mean, there was a thread this summer called getting the DM position right. That thread was started partly because of how average Dihno's play was when learning the system.

David is special, Yaya is special, Kev is special... Dihno is not! He is a good player, playing great football.

But even now, there are still quarks in his game. His passing in tight spaces is probably the weakest of all the starters. And on many occasions he has been the main culprit of a loss of possession under pressure. Some of that is just fatigue, some of it is not been as cultured as the others.

So I say this having watched him judiciously in many matches. Noting both his strengths and weaknesses. He is good. He is not special. Thus, replacing him contrary to popular opinion will be comfortably doable.

Granted, players like David and Kev are regarded with the top 10 players of the world currently, i guess Yaya was at some point too.

I can get some of youre gist though i'm not so sure where it's so important in regards to how easily we could replace Fern. As you noted yourself, he does great in our system, then again we need quality players that fir our system, were not going to serve ourself by getting the most expensive DM's that are far from a perfect fit for us. Besides a defensive workhorse and an athlete we need a quality passer in a DM aswell imho. But you said you had several names in mind, i'm willing to hear those withought bias.

As to Fern's passing abbilety, perhaps ive watched him less close than you but i have been rather impressed by some of his passing game especially on counters.

Ive loaded up football manager if i could find some quick alternatives. But at similar level there isn't much to be found, one raphael varane that is already signed to real Madrid, and a guy named Allan that plays for Napoli that does look as a potential step up. it was a narrow search, i guess you could add guys like Naingolan or Asamoah aswell where they have perhaps an advantage on specific attibute's. It is hard to find similar level players though that arn't with clubs that wouldn't sell them and are still relativly young.

For an English player Jordan henderson of liverpool looks good, in Fm that is. Perhaps you guys know better based on perfromances you have seen from him on the pitch. And afcourse i'm not sure if pool would sell to us.

Does anybody else worry for him next season? If he stays fit he probably plays most of the season for us. Then plays for Brazil in the world cup. At 34 that is a lot. The amount of games he plays this season could come back to haunt him next season.

I remember how good Gerrard was during the 13/14 season only to drop off badly the following season.

You will know how special Fernandinho is when he leave the team.

They way he press and being in the right place at the right time is not easy.

They way he keep the ball under pressure, the ability to spread pin point passes from the back ( He is creating scoring opportunities almost every game )

Yaya was replaced by new system and not new player, he used to be the creative spark from the middle but now Pep converted Silva and KDB to CM/CAM to create the build up from the middle.

With Fernandinho Pep is not going to change the system, he will need similar player.

We will buy a Yaya replacement in the summer and someone who can rotate with Fernandinho is the same way Gundogan and Bernardo have this season.

Weigl and Fred have been linked quite a bit recently.
