You are conflating different things. Holding on to a talented injured player because of what he brings is one thing. Analyzing his performance in a specific game is another. The former requires you take into account how good he has been. The latter doesn't.

You Simply just analyze the facts. Let's take this just concluded game for example. He was mostly deemed either the best or at worst 2nd best on the day by most. But the facts day something else. We gave up the ball 6 times without pressure in the 2nd half yesterday ( when we were trying to keep possession) 3 of those were Dihno trying uncalled for risky long balls. Half of the 6 unforced incomplete passes by Dihno.

I mean our CB pass completion average for the season is around 93% , These guys almost never have a % lower than 90%. Dihno finished at an alarming 86%. Lower than Mendy who most complained about his passing on the game thread. Mendy ( a poor passer by City's standard) finished at 88%.

86% is catastrophic for a CB. Yet he was voted 2ns best somehow. It's absurd stuff. Dave used to get similar career gradings. I mean Kev and Bernado who were making risky passes to open up defenses finished with 88% each. You'd almost never find John under 95%, Eric around 93% to 96%, Ota' will every now and then flirt with 89-90% on a horrible day. Yet Dihno clocks in at 86% completion and no one bats and eye.

It's bias. Some of our players get graded on the curve of past accomplishments. I just don't. I grade on individual games.

Like you said and correctly so, our fans think he has been one of the best, and he has. But that believe often clouds their perceptions of the specific facts of a specific game.

Again, like I pointed out without fanfare in my analysis a page or so back. Had a great first half defensively, but was poor in possession and didn't particularly help our control of the game in the 2nd. Those are just the facts. I'll leave the opining to crowd.

Dax - someone's ability or reputation isn't based off one performance mate. It's based off a long stretch. When guys Gundogan or Otamendi cop stick, it's not just based off that specific mistake alone - it's also factoring in their contributions as a whole. Just like, for example, you commit a crime. Each crime you commit is not looked at on the basis of the individual crime alone when you're being tried. If you've got a great record, and you're probably not going to do the same thing again, better your chances for lesser punishment. Vice versa for when you've got a bad record, for the same mistake.

There is no clouding of perceptions. People watch the game closely and know what they see, which is what they base their judgements on, instead of focusing on meaningless stats with no context. I'd implore you to do the same.

Again, I havent said anything about reputation or ability. You keep trying hard to conflate a related but undiscussed issue.

I've not once questioned his ability or reputation. I'm expressing a simple idea here: That the analysis of a game be based on what happened in the game. Not simply highlighting what matches past reputation and ignoring what doesn't.

Again, you call it meaningless stats, but I noticed it in the moment. Check the game thread, I said at the time, "Dihno needs to calm down and stop giving away possession." The stat simply recorded what I noticed in the moment.

Ageist alert
I can't believe I used to dislike you. I realize now that you were just being fiercely loyal to your favorites. It's commendable.

Happy New Year Karen. Look forward to a less abrasive relationship btw us this year. I recognize you want the best for City and demand respect for those who have served that cause amicably. I respect that.

I just follow a different code. , Don't hate me for it. I love City too and want the best for us. I hope you recognize that too.

Happy new year to you as well,we both want the same thing,i am right and you are wrong though :)

Our defense has been weak overall. And Dihno has had his errors just like the others. Albeit as is often the case, Dihno's poor play (like Dave's) are almost never discussed with the same vitriol you can expect to find on an Ota, Mendy or Ilkay Thread.

So true , we all have our favourite players but i do not understand some of the hate and vitriol towards any player who pulls on a blue shirt , obviously some players disappoint at times , but the match day thread is something to behold for kneejerk reactions.
