Cheers Ray. That's a nice tidy profit for an 8 year investment.
With the greatest respect though Josh, you could argue that Arsenal paid £2.75m for van Persie and then made a nice tidy profit selling him for £24m. You don't see many United fans complaining. Granted, the figures are different but the same principle applies. If Fernandinho helps us win the league then who's to say it was bad business by the club?
Hypothetical, of course, but from what I've seen he'll improve us considerably. I think the fee is inflated, but if Soriano, Begiristain and Khaldoon think it's affordable then I'll trust their judgement for now. Personally, this is the most excited I've been about a new season for a long time.
I don't doubt he will improve us and it seems on the face of it a huge improvement on last season's signings but then that wouldn't be too difficult. The money doesn't bother me or affect my life one bit so I'm not really that arsed but I'd very much like to see us sell players for similar fees just once in a while. All that said if the criteria is as long as it wins us the league then lets go and buy Cavani for 80m, lets go and get Ronaldo for 100m and lets go and buy Messi for 250m, we could even raid the Rags for RVP I reckon 50m would get him and lets win every cup possible next year and recuperate the money back in one go. Like I said I'm not really bothered I just think 30/34m for somebody who let's be honest isn't in the top bracket of players is becoming excessive and one could with some justification ask where is it going to end?
The problem with football clubs is everybody looks at it like its a personal attack on their own family if one questions the validity of something that their club does. However it doesn't make the questioner, if they are questioning their own club dislike the club any less for doing so. I just think 34m is a hell of a lot of money for him whether or not he helps us win the league or not.
