Do you really think we just went to Fernandinho and paid the money, didn't even bother asking about the availability of anyone else eg Vidal.

We haven't waited too long for the summer to pan out to see what else was available though have we? Getting players in quick is a double edged sword in that sense. What if Fabregas or someone of a similar ilk were to become available for £25 million?

It would be the equivalent of buying Cheryl Cole a lot of expensive drinks at the beginning of a night (she's great, she'll do the trick just fine, but it'll cost a lot of money and she's getting on a bit), only to see Michelle Keegan come by later on who is just as good looking but a lot younger with a lot more in the tank and is willing to be yours for much cheaper drinks. The leftover money from the drinks you woulda spent on Cheryl could have been put towards a few drinks for Frankie Sandford the next day.

Last summer we waited until the end of the night to see if something better was coming along and ended up taking Kerry Katona home as there was nothing decent left.

Do stop banging on about the fee, being City fans you should know better than to just repeat the crap that the media spew out.

except for the headline which is "Why £34m Fernandinho is already the signing of the summer" and then follows up with "His fee and salary is believed to be costing £30 million", so they can't even keep their story straight in the one article.
He believes Fernandinho will absolutely boss the midfield next season BTW.

I personally think the fee only would have been around the £22 million mark which was originally quoted but :-
1. who knows?
2. who cares?

Shakhter have announced the fee at 40m euros which is £34m, the fee unfortunately seems to be correct.

Which in itself is interesting as the Ukraine doesn't have Euros as its currency

Seriously though , it's not simply the " best " player for the part , but the "right " player !
That was an accusation levelled at Mancini , that he selected the best eleven rather than the right eleven and ended up with some puzzling set- ups and even more puzzling substitutions.
I think Fernandinho will be the right choice.
