34M for a 28!! year old brazilian from a ukrainian team. I'm sorry but thats way too much!
For that amount of money we could get witsel from zenit.
4 years younger and in my humble opinion a much better player.

But I give fernandinho the chance to prove himself, good luck!

I think the fee is inflated

It's worth bearing in mind Shakhtar are an oil rich club with fuck all obligation to sell players they have on long contracts. They have a far better recent European history than us and are genuinely one of the top teams in Europe even if they play in the Russian league. All the histrionics about what he's costing are well misplaced.

They neither are oil rich nor they play in the Russian league; other pieces you seem to have gotten spot on :)

Haha. That'll learn me for drunk posting! My point stands though. They're a very rich club who don't need to sell because they do well both domestically and in Europe.

i was pissed off about the fee yesterday but now i couldn't give a shit, hes quality and its not my money, if khaldoon and the sheik are happy with it then im delighted

The club got their man
The only perceptible drawback of what seems to be an inflated amount and estimation of the player is the fact that the media will use this transfer to incite and perpetuate negativity and contempt for the club from other fans and the general public. This is evidenced by the fact that Sky sports and the BBC attached the fee to the news headline. The message being that City are once again throwing money around the place with no sense of wisdom and structure- this is their intent (agenda) and it seems to be working if you look at reactions to the deal all over the internet.

But any sensible city fan would of course not give a flying hoots about what other fans think and how they attempt to justify and rationalize their envy and consequent hatred for the club by pouncing on any news and dealing that the agenda - driven utd- infested dark media indirectly or directly portray as negative or controversial. Pathetic really.

What people should realize is that this was not an impulsive or rushed deal.(like last season) The staff had done their extensive research and scouting for a considerable period of time and concluded that Fernandinho is a good fit and will contribute positively to the club going forward. This is why they were willing to agree with this deal as it was clear that Shakthar Donetsk were not willing to sell unless we meet the over-inflated buy out clause or close to it. The fact that Shahktar were not willing to let him go, which forced the player to voice out his intention to leave can only be a reflection of how the club rates him as a footballer and an asset.

So no one should get bugged down by the transfer fee because the bottom line is that the club got their man and rated him so highly that they were willing to pay the fee.

Personally, as I've said a zillion times, I have my doubts about Fernandinho but I hope Im wrong. Notwithstanding, he is now a city player, I wish him all the best and hope he does his best for the club.
Spot on

That's a ridiculous statement tbh. Fernandinho is a very athletic player that easily has another 6-7 years in him at top level. Yaya a bit the opposite. He needs to use a lot of power and is very musculair, so I figure Yaya won't last that long.

As for buying a 28 year old? Well, I remember when Pelegrini managed Villareal and he made Marcos Senna at 30+ so goopd, the player became an international. Thats the sort of manager we are gettin in, one that even managed to get RSC playing a few games (and scoring the odd one as well).

Finally, since when has money been an issue for City since Sheik Mansour took over? I don't wanna sound arrogant nor do I wanna see us pay over the top again and again, but fact is we have the financial power to get to the top, exactly where Sheik Mansour want this club to be. FFS will never come to fruitation due to European law, with Jean Luis Dupont bringing the system to court to see where his will end up. Agents wont let it happen either because it'll hurt their fees.

I'm sorry but you just can't say Fernandinho easily has another 6 or 7 years at the top. That would make him 34 or 35. Yes there are some players, Lampard for example, who can still; contribute at that age, and some like Giggs and Scholes who carry on beyond it, but the vast majority of players will have either retired, or else their fitness/skills will have diminished by that point. Fernandinho has a 5 year contract, if we can get him to age 32 or 33 and he's still contributing then that's about as much as I imagine we are aiming for.

The same obsessed rag who said Navas was fat wrote

"What a shit signing Fernandinho is from City, he is going to flop, the next Kleberson."

Oh fuck off.

Your guess about Fernandinho's lastings is as good as mine. He might get a serious injury, he might turn out another Senna under Pellegrini. Like I said, it's the way he's build and plays his football that at 28 you can fairly guess he will last his 5 years no doubt. RoFaldo is 28. Wonder if age would be an issue if we signed him.

And to add to the original post frm Matty, Brasilian players in the Oekraine and Russian league are often overlooked by the Brasilian national management. Don't know why, but it's a fact. No wonder Fernandinho was so desperate to come to us with the WC2014 being played in Brasil. 28, athletic, comes for the right reasons even offering his bonus to join us ... I'm optimistic.

seems like a really nice and decent bloke, good at maths too; seeing him sitting inside our stadium made me wish this close season would hurry up and end!

According to the newsreader on SSN a few minutes ago:

"Fernandinho has completed his move to Chelsea, he scored the winner against his new club for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last October..."

We didn't hold on to him for very long then did we?!

Couldnt help but like him even more after he explained that bit about his new nr.

Too bad it's a bit difficult to join in on some of our players cool pattern:

Lopes =2*Tevez=4*Kun=8*Nasri=16*Kompany=32*Richards=64*Hart

Initial impressions:

Negs:
£30m a lot for a 28 year old.

Pros:
Champions League experience
Used to freezing cold winters
Looks a very good player
Will want to make an impression for the Brazil WC team.

Lets make him welcome and wish him luck. I'm sure his game will come on with us. You get out what you put in, if he wants it he can achieve it.

Rags focused on the reported fee on "rag cafe" but if this kid hits the ground running he'll pay dividends....

Funny because at the beginning of the thread over on the dark side they were salivating about him going to the swamp..... Wankers

Rag *****, they are crying out for a player like this lad. He is going to be immense for us, we shouldnt underestimate the desire he had to come and play for the mighty blues. Roll on next season.

They have 'ANDESRON' :-)

I don't have an issue with the fee, as long as it doesn't restrict our efforts on bringing Cavani and Isco in. We obviously don't want to pay the buy out fee for Cavani but hopefully that's just because they think they can get him cheaper.
