Quality player, the way he sprayed passes during the Chelsea and Birmingham games makes it look simple. Hopefully he will be offered another year.
Midfield he offers far far more than in defence.

It does seem odd to me that the club is so willingly letting him go by the sounds of it. Especially when you take into account what a role model he seems to be.

He might not be at his physical peak but he doesn't seem so far off of it that he's a detriment. Nor is he injury prone like Aguero has become. The fact he's playing well at this mid-stage of the season should only be a good thing, as if he really did have problems then this would be the precise time we'd be seeing them.

I can only assume the club have either:
1) Seen some significant deterioration in his running numbers (including in training) that we're not aware of, meaning they think it's going to become bad in a problematic way next year and beyond.
2) A succession plan in mind, including a player lined up to replace him already.
3) Decided that he's just older and the club are getting ruthless on this front. He might be one of a few to get let go/shipped out, alongside Aguero possibly for example.

Not really seeing much decline in his individual performances and he seems such an important player of the pitch (helping young players settle in etc), so I would be surprised if the club don’t offer him another year especially with Agüero potentially leaving. He would be an unreal free signing for any top side if he does go.

He's been fit all season except November and only started 3/15 league games. Bearing in mind all the injuries and poor form...is his presence and experience in the dressing room worth a place in the squad over a 25 year old replacement? I imagine that's the difficult conversation they're having

If Rodri got injured could he play every other game for 2 months to help out? Not likely.

I would love him to stay, but I don't think we have room to carry him for 90% of games just to see him in a couple of derbies or top 6 clashes a season - and he's only going to get less fit. I'd rather he go out while he can still make everyone giddy by bossing a derby.

If Pep's been holding him in reserve and he plays 15 big games at the end of the season then everything changes.

Also like with Aguero, the players have an important say. If the player decides he doesn't want to wait for City to see enough to warrant a contract offer and speaks to PSG/Fenerbache, it's out of the clubs hands.

That's a good point. I wonder if it's once bitten, twice shy from the Touré situation? He was out of the team and then came in and played a big part so they kept him around and then he was not worth it in 17/18.

Sometimes you have to let the old go so the young can grow.

Every season we will get a lesser Dihno than the last. Personally, I'd have said join the coaching staff. But it seems he wants to play a little while longer. There is nothing wrong with letting an old great go have a few good years somewhere else.

I'd be for moving both Aguero and Dihno on. Even if they aren't showing major deterioration yet.

Time to let the young grow.

I think that was mainly the Fernandinho at CB experiment and our shaky CB pairings with Laporte injured. He's barely put a foot wrong this season and while not as good as his peak, he's still a very good and valuable player.
