rolling contract base on appearances, he showed against united in our new set up he has the legs for the role, in fact he rolled back the years actually looked younger, if we go back the the "getting countered side" then no.

My only concern is:
Fern 2 years
Pep: 2 years
Aguero: likely 2 years if rxtends
Messi: likely 2 years with us if he rocks up

does it then leave us with a problem, I don’t know.

Absolutely yes. Very good player still, and a great personality and leader to have around the club.
 
There is more sense in giving him a contract than there is Aguero. Plus he is clearly respected as club captain by the rest of the players.

For me, He stays and we offer a path to coaching. It's all down to how much football he wants to play. He is clearly capable of still playing at a very high level, despite his age
 
I wouldn't be averse to a one-year extension. He's incredibly fit for his age, and showed at Old Trafford that he can still compete at the highest level. He's a leader on and off the pitch too. Would allow us to focus our efforts elsewhere (i.e. a striker and a left back) in the transfer window.

Sadly, I suspect there's going to be a cull of some description this summer and Ferna will be in it.
