They did, indeed. Garcia brings the positional awareness and tackling, while Rodwell provides the speed and forward-thinking.
Yaya-Fernandinho would do the same.
Yaya-Rodwell would be too lightweight but Fernandinho-Garcia (from what I have seen) might even work well, too.
Garcia has improved much more than others have given him credit and I think he is more than just a squad player. I hope we do not sell him after one season but who knows, this is football, after all.
um excuse me, everyone seem to be forgetting Gareth Barry.

As Taconinja said, I have not forgotten him, I just don't think he fits in our long term plans. He has been a model professional and if we only wanted to compete for the premier league every year he would have a few more years in him but he is just not up for continental play. We need players that can link defense to attack much faster and not give away the ball in horrid positions quite so often (I started counting for all midfielders toward the end of the season and Barry was one of our worst offenders--the other major problem was he lacked any real pace to make up for it once he gave the ball away so although others did it on occasion, they were able to run and cover).

Of course you haven't forgotten him, I meant he is being ignored in the discussion about midfielders. If you are considering Garcia (who I see as a CB to be honest), then you have to put Barry in the mix as he is still a better option both offensively and defensively as a midfielder. His football intelligence , midfield positional awareness and passing is underrated to be frank.
I know he is getting to the end of his spell at the club but I will still consider him before Garcia. He is slow but compared to Garcia he is electric.

With Thiago's buyout clause of 18m Euros as well, if we can get the two for around 35m Pounds I think that would be superb business.

And Isco at 20 for a grand total of 55m. Superb indeed.

expect a bid for rodwell from moyes.
Really? You heard something or just a hunch?
Cant see us doing business with them, especially for a player with such potential.

Isco's buyout is 35m euros and to be honest it will be hard to get that down if you ask me mate.

I understand where you are coming from (and it seems to be a popular perspective) but Garcia is actually faster than Barry and keeps possession far better in high pressure situations. You are right, his positional awareness is slightly better but his passing is not superior in my opinion.
If we are debating whether Barry has a place in the squad than I will agree that he does. But he should not generally be considered for European football, which I think he would not be happy with.

This may seem unpopular and certainly odd but Barry is the player I enjoy watching the most among all the players as I am always entertained by his passing intelligence and decisions. He really is an absolute top class player on the ball. Garcia is physically strong and has improved and settled better in the last few months of the season. He is also very good in terms of making intelligent but conservative passes. As you said, he is good at holding on to the ball in critical moments but these are 50:50 heart in the mouth moments. Barry is better and more comfortable on the ball and have better and greater range of passes than Garcia so I have to disagree with you on passing because I thing Barry is way better.
In terms of pace, Im sure you may have the champions league match against Real madrid at the Bernabeau when Di maria breezed passed Barry (and Garcia) to set up their second goal for Benzema. At that moment I also identified that Barry does not have the intensity to compete in high level European competition but this also applies to Garcia in my opinion. Garcia does not simply have acceleration and cannot recover once the ball has gone passed him or once he has made a mistake and this is a liability and a weak point for the team in both local and European Competitions. The guy is pathogenically nonathletic (bit harsh). Barry on the other hand can recover better than Garcia and is certainly more athletic.
Garcia is a good player and has presence in both boxes and is probably our best header of the ball but his lack of athleticism is a glaring and I must admit damning flaw, so Barry is a better player and option than Garcia.
Summary
Barry
Positive:
Passing intelligence and decision making
Versatile in attacking positions e.g skilled at making runs into the box.
Good midfield positioning and awareness
A good salt bridge or buffer between defense and offense.
Good delivery from set pieces.
Deceptively aggressive
Negative:
Lack of intensity and low acceleration.
One footed
Getting on a bit.
Not necessarily good at defending set pieces.
Garcia
Positive:
Physically strong and tall
Good midfield positioning
Incredible set piece threat and the best header of the ball in the club.
Can play centre back.
Reads the game well.
Negetive:
NO ACCELERATION and pace: should have played indoor volley ball instead of football.
Limited passing ability and range.
Disappointingly poor tackling ability.
No intensity
Did I mention lack of pace.
Most damning/ negative of all is that his development forecast is limited by his actual talent :(
Oh and also the pace issue as well.
Conclusion. Barry >> Garcia.
But my hope is that this Ferdinandinho guy will be better than both because we can never know until they get on the ring and face the intensity of the punches from the Premier league.
