Fernandinho

He is but a different sort of player at Shaktar he had workhorse next him T.HUBSCHMAN he was their Yaya. I thought he was brought in to get the best out Yaya going forward but today he was further forward leaving Yaya as the holding midfielder. Yaya as good as he is going forward his pressing & closing down opposition players has always been poor. A Yaya & Fernanindinho pairing is unbalanced alright for some home games but for the tough away games and European games We should go with Yaya Fernandinho Rodwell.

Typical overreaction. He was brilliant in pre-season and brilliant against Newcastle. He had a bad game today but if I'm honest he was no worse than Yaya was.

We missed Barry today.....whatever you say
No we didn't we had similar performances like this when Barry was in the side.

We did-but we also had many times more good performances with him in the team. Its a mistake to discard him.

-- Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:25 pm --

Was he brilliant against Newcastle?!

There will often be balance issues with Yaya/Fernandinho, maybe not so much at home when we are hunting in packs. But neither of them are 'terriers' who will screen the defence like Medel for Cardiff was for example. In games like this, you either play a three (with Yaya further forward) with a proper holding midfielder or make a sacrifice. I think Fernandinho looks very skillful going forward, he can almost morph into a winger at will too, but the defence is left exposed.

I'd agree that he wasn't any worse than Yaya, but I didn't see this brilliance in pre-season or against a quite frankly woeful Geordie midfield. He was OK against them, nothing more, nothing less.

There is a distinct drop off in quality from Yaya and Fernandinho, so that when either of them have an off day there isn't really any quality we can bring on.

Milner is solid but nothing special, Rodwell is injury prone so can't be relied on and Garcia is Garcia.

Think he'll be alright. Problem is, if he's alright, most would ask, "is it enough?" For me, at least for the time being, he will be marked down by people with the fact that City paid 30m for him.
