Fernandinho

I think part of the problem for him is that he has been expected to play as a defensive midfield player and that just isn't his strength. That job should be Fernando's with Fernandinho in front of him alongside Toure .

He went off the boil towards the end of last season and has struggled to regain any form. I don't blame him though, I think our ridiculous system has run him into the ground. It's no coincidence that whoever we partner in a two with Yaya comes in for abuse and spends the entire game chasing shadows and struggling to stop people running straight at our defence. It's too much work for one player, I have no idea why any manager would think that you can play like this.

Brendan Rodgers does exactly the same thing with Steven Gerrard. They were more solid without him the other night after getting destroyed at Anfield . Even in the final they won Gerrard was in a 2 in the first half and they got destroyed until Hamann came on and freed Gerrard up.

City will never get anywhere in Europe with Toure in a midfield 2. Pellegrini's risking his job doing this. At least he won't play against Bayern but Fernandinho's suspension means he can't play either.

The World Cup has definitely had an effect. He was slaughtered by the European Media for not being sent off against Columbia and was then slaughtered by his own media for the mistakes against Germany.

Not ideal when his team mates are also struggling, but he's got to snap out of it and remember that he's a Premier League winner.

What so let's pretend then that Fernandinho is a world class player. Not saying he's shite, he's a good player..that's about it. People getting carried away saying shite like build a team around him, he's not bloody Messi, he's 29 year old box to box midfielder and a decent above average one at that (but is prone to too many lapses in concentration for my liking)..but fuck me you'd think some were talking about the next Messi here. Kompany, Kun, Silva are our great players. Half a good season and Dinhos already up there with Bell. I like him, ye can like him but let's call a spade a fucking spade lads

He's above average. But this team is not for him.Shakhtars setup was different. I dont understand why we bought him if we arent going to use him properly.

Can't believe some of the shit on this thread, yes he's out of form and had a very poor start to the season (perhaps a world cup hangover). The fact that some absolute moron (I can only assume) would say he's rubbish and always has been, and another would call him shit definitely shows how pathetic some people get following a bad run of form or a big loss. He'll get better as the season goes on and people will look just as stupid as they did last year when they wrote him off after 3 games. Dick heads.

Unbelievable that people are blaming him for our poor start, he's hardly played! Why he has played so little is beyond me quite frankly, he is better than Fernando in almost every way, give him a run of games (and play a midfield 3) and the team will improve I have no doubts about that

City are a midfielder short which doesn't help the midfielders who do play and is why Lampard is needed to play a lot.

Fernandinho would have been fine with the summer off but a gruelling World Cup hasn't helped him. He's not used to international tournaments and now he's probably got the Copa America in the summer so he's not going to get a proper rest again.

I'd like to see a Fernando, Fernandinho and Milner midfield to tighten things up in Europe until we can go out and sign a Pogba. The one constant in the failing midfield in Europe is Toure.

So after tonight does anyone still think this lads world class our we should "build a team around him"? or is he not just a bang average player that sometimes is decent and other times like tonight anonymous or shit....30million worth of averageness

Something is way off for this lad. It's like he's forgotten how to play his position. He dives in to everything, often missing the tackle and taking out the man. This results is a card and a dangerous free kick. He was close to getting a second yellow and being sent off again today with a stupidly reckless challenge that just missed the man.
He needs taking to the side and tought how to delay his man, not dive in.
