Manchester City are still waiting for the green light to proceed with their pursuit of Porto’s Fernando.

City were close to signing the 26-year-old in January but couldn’t agree a fee with Porto.

He signed a new three-year deal in February but is now expected to move for around £16m when the final details are ironed out.

Fernando, who is not part of Brazil’s squad at the World Cup, will add competition for places in midfield with Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell, if the former Everton man isn’t off-loaded.

With Bacary Sagna’s arrival from Arsenal already confirmed and Fernando expected to join him, City will turn their attentions to signing a new centre-back and second-choice goalkeeper.

Porto’s French centre-back Eliaquim Mangala remains a target despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and United, as does Roma’s Mehdi Benatia.

Malaga’s Willy Caballero is favourite to take over from Costel Pantilimon as Joe Hart’s understudy after the Romanian goalkeeper agreed a deal with Sunderland.

City are also expected to announce Samir Nasri’s new contract when he returns from his summer holiday.

The Frenchman, who is not part of Didier Deschamps’ squad in Brazil, is expected back at Carrington next month to begin preparations for the new season.

Fernando or Dembele?
Fernando or Matuidi?

Who's better, regardless of price.

Well Fernando is a true holding DM. Shields the back 4 so he's not the same type of player as either. I hoped we'd sign Dembele from the Cottager's as backup for Yaya but I'm thrilled we didn't. He has been very disappointing at Spurs and with Belgium. Not creative enough to play in the attacking midfield role and not good enough defensively to play in the holding role.

Matuidi is a good young player which is why we tried to sign him. Can score goals and would be a great long term replacement for Yaya. With Matuidi and Yaya forward and Dinho holding in a midfield 3 would be very impressive but I think Dinho and Yaya with Fernando holding is the better bet. Giving us better defensive cover and more physicality. Though with Yaya going off the rails again maybe we should sell Yaya to PSG with Matuidi coming the other way giving us Matuidi & Dinho attacking and Fernando holding. Would be a very good midfield that few clubs could deal with IMO.

Am so pissed off with the constant delay, I'm starting to dislike him against my better judgment

Personally I have 2, 1 either side of my nose fairly equidistant. Why do you ask?

Meh!

If the mangala rumors are true then IT could be a wait for a dubble-deal. I think just that porto are acting like duchebags and not letting Fernando do what he wants..
