Doubted the free transfer when I heard we wont pay the price for him on deadline day. Even if it was 10-12m thats a great fee for a player like Fernando with the experience he has in EL/CL.

We probably offered between 4m and 8m. Its not like we were close to get him for free in January. We didnt want to pay some extra 3-4m and hoped to get the deal done in summer for free. Now we can look for another midfielder and doubt it will be less than 15m for us.

Mangala also wont be any cheaper in the summer. Imagine if he gets into France squad and has a very good WC. And dont think we will be the only team in for him. Monaco/PSG could go for him too easily.

Our transfer team has to work really hard now to find other targets and get them done as soon as possible in the summer.

There is a lot better out there for that kind of money. Would have been a good player to have as cover for Yaya or fernandinho but for 20-30mil for a cover player is to much! Gundogan would probably be cheaper in the summer.

He was available for 12 million pound in January, so it doesnt make sense to pay 30 mill in summer now.

Maybe we offered Porto a way to save face by letting him "renew", and paying big for Mangala with Fernando appearing to be part of the package.

Why do we have to save the face of any team ?

Shell we let Barry renew his contract before he move to Everton to save our face !

Juventus got Loriente and Pogba for free, they didn't care about Bilbao or United.

Keep them sweet because we want Mangala too.

Those who expect a player to jeopardize his WC chances just so he can join another club, are silly. Sure he might fancy joining City. But never so much so, that he would be willing to give up the opportunity to play in the WC.
