Watching the Porto game earlier,he is slightly inferior Fernandinho - perfect!

I stand by the above comment.

The game last night showed he is much more than a defensive player, his assist for their first goal was superb.

As posted in the Mangala thread just now I watched the last 20 minutes of this game and I do like the look of Fernando

He looks solid and positions himself well in front of the back 4 when defending, looked comfortable on the ball and played the simple pass

I think he would be ideal for the CL especially, where he can play alongside either Yaya or Fernandinho whilst freeing the other to move further forward with Silva and Nasri behind Aguero.

The last 20min. were the best of Porto and of Fernando as well. 1st half I wasn't too impressed, yet it seemed he was somehow overlooked by some of his teammates. But I know this player for a much longer time and it seems he needs another challenge to up his game. City could well be that challenge.
Mangala was great, sometimes a bit wild, but at 21/22 a great prospect and perfect for the PL imo.

What's the latest on him? will we go balls deep for him? plump for the Sporting player instead? trust Huws and the Argie boy? hope Rodwell stays fit? will he be part of the Mangala deal?

LoveCity posted this yesterday.:

There's a big Inter site in Italy that often claims to get exclusives through Italian agents, and today it says Fernando has a £12m (15m Euros) release clause in his new deal, but that Inter won't get him because he's going to the Premier League... and probably City.

I reckon we will sell Garca and Rodwell and start the season with 5 midfielders next season, them being Yaya, Fernandinho, Fernando, Zuculini and Huws, we have all bases covered then with a perfect balance of seniors and youth.

I reckon Carvalho is United bound.

Many players left their clubs for free, for example :

Pogba
Loriente
Montolivo

So why can't we get our fair share to sign quality players for free !!!

Thiago Silva, Pirlo, Ballack, Flamini, Eto'o, Cambiasso, Lewandowski, Vidic etc. There are often quality players available on a free, unfortunately Fernando is not one of them.

Dunno if there is any truth in this.....from TUTTOMERCATOWEB.

The Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has decided: Mascherano will not be a blue player. The number one club Neapolitan is not convinced by the age of the player, his salary and the cost. An investment is too important for a player who has already passed the age of 30. The primary objective for the midfield remains Fernando Francisco Reges, since the port seems to be willing to negotiate its sale. The club asks Lusitanian € 18 million, Napoli stands at 12 and continue to negotiate. Filing also the employment of the player, which calls for 3.5 million per year for 4 years. In The Morning is back.

We'd easily match and exceed whatever salary Napoli can offer him. 12 million quid is still a decent bargain for him. Much more mobile than Garcia.

Nah you want Benteke up front mate ;)

Seriously though, might go and make that team - or I would if I wasn't giving FIFA a long break. It's bad for the blood with the headers, pace-whoring, corners, 45th & 90th minute goals and other nonsense that ruins it more often than not.
