That's all well and good but I've seen him about 6 times and hes a De Jong clone even does the same spin in the centre circle before playing it across to the full back, we need someone nearer Fernandinho than nearer Garcia.

Don't agree. We need someone who can sit in front of the defense like Garcia ...only better.

Portuguese league stats aren't recorded by most places, so you only end up with the stats from a couple of CL games unfortunately

Yep, all of the stats above are from the CL. 6 games/540 mins

Garcia can do thar pure defensive role, if we have say Bayern away in the quater final on the Tuesday and want to rest Yaya and Fernandinho for when playing say Villa away in the cup then that would leave us with Garcia and Fernando, 2 defensive midfielders that are far from creative, Matuidi would have been a great free transfer but sadly he's staying.

A De Jong clone? Well that's still better than Garcia. He's better than De Jong though, a lot more athletic and if he does sign you'll be pleasantly surprised?

Mirror: City have made a breakthrough in their attempts to sign Porto midfielder Fernando (26) this summer and are confident of a deal.

The article mentions a £20m figure though which would be a dissapointment if we could have got him for cheaper in January.

Still worth the fee mind, the lad looks class.

WTF is this?

Mirror:

Manchester City are confident of tying up a £20m summer deal for Porto midfielder Fernando.

Now either Mirror or us are very stupid. This guy was going to be a free transfer in the summer, signed a new contract in January and Mirror say he has now a buy out close of around 20m.

Porto is really hard to beat when it comes to transfers, they are masters of getting sick fees for their players, now it is possible they gave a contract to Fernando and that means they are getting 20m for him instead of leaving on free 6 months later? If its right you have to give lot of credit to them...

I think from the outside looking in they had the lad in a corner.

By all accounts we could have had him for free in the summer because he was out of contract or if I remember correctly a fee of around 10m in January could have got him but instead we put a double deal in for both Fernando and Mangala on the last day of the window and they didn't accept and left us with little negotiating time.

In the end I think Fernando was forced to sign a new contract because he was reportedly threatened with being left out of the the Porto team for not renewing and with these supposed intentions of switching nationalities to Portugal so he could play in the World Cup I reckon he was forced to sign the new deal so he could have a chance to play for Portugal.

It would make sense and has been speculated about in Portugal.

Porto own 56% of Mangala's sporting rights and 90% of Fernando's.

Overcharge us for Fernando and reduce price for Mangala (consistent with Tolmie's info) and Porto earn more money instead of the 3rd party owners of Mangala.

It appears to a Daily Mirror report that claims Man City are close to signing Fernando for 20 million.

Clever stuff, they'll probably walk away with about 30m and good future relations with us.
