These potential squad restricitions will only be sanctioned for one season so we shouldn't go out signing a load of average homegrown players just because we want to be able to field a team in Europe next season.

Fernando will be beneficial long term and will improve our midfield squad depth signficantly as he is one of the best defensive midfielders in world football, there is no point signing a poorer homegrown player just because we want to compete in Europe next season.

I reckon we will forfeit next seasons Champions League and just hope for the best if these squad restirctions come in anyway.

Yup, but that was to fuck over Sporting, as opposed to a 3rd party investor (Sporting got 50% of any Moutinho transfer, whereas Porto owned about 90% of James iirc)
