FYI, MEN breaking ranks to claim that certain parts of the deal (such as the medical) are still not done:

City on verge of Fernando deal

The Portuguese club released a statement tonight revealing City have reached an agreement in principal for the 26-year-old midfielder

Manchester City are on the verge of sealing a deal for Porto's Fernando.

The Portuguese club released a statement tonight revealing City have reached an agreement in principal for the 26-year-old midfielder.

But City were last night insisting the deal has not yet been finalised.

It is understood Fernando is in Brazil and has not yet had a medical.

But the deal is expected to be completed in the coming days with City set to pay around £12m.

He came close to moving to the Etihad Stadium in January but negotiations collapsed when the two clubs failed to agree a fee.

He signed a new contract in February but City have always maintained a quiet confidence they could push through a deal.

This guy is some player I have been watching him for awhile now and believe me he will be every offensive players worst nightmare he is all over you like a rash you just can't shake him off and he ain't bad on the ball either, worth 3 times the 12m I can't honestly believe we got him for that price and I can't only think we will pay 35m for Mangala as part of a double price agreement

He should be free signing, but somehow we ended up paying 12m to makes Porto happy.

Great signing. just really frustrating we had to pay £12 million when a few months ago we could have had him for free if Mangala wasn't a prick.

Myself ,my little boy and City.

Pointing out to a lot of people on here Fernando wasn't joining us for free in January he was costing around 8 mil but we couldn't agree the double deal, we could have signed a pre contractual agreement in January and he would join for free next month but he choose to sign a new deal with Porto in a hope of making the world cup but it didn't work out, he took a shot, like everyone on here I wish he didn't sign the new deal but he did. That's the hand that was dealt he is a top player with a long term contract I think Porto are doing us a favour here he is worth a lot more then we are paying!

...and we'd have won the quadruple!

"FCPorto paid Vila Nova FC just 700,000€ for Fernando back in 2007.
Fernando was playing in Brazilian 3rd division. Amazing."

As well as Fernando we need to be picking up whoever is the head of scouting in South America.

Staggering amount of players are picked up ahead of seemingly everyone with no competition, I understand that there are work permit issues that don't affect Portuguese clubs like most others but still!

This. If there is a magic formula to finding players in South America then Porto seem to have found it.

The problem is more that they can afford to buy a lot of them, play them all without any real fear of dropping below 2nd/3rd place and let them develop. Some of them develop into valuable players, others don't. We can't afford to do that, we can't have players who aren't good enough playing for us.

They also have a lot of traction with South American dealmakers, as Portugal is the only country in the EU that allows 3rd party ownership, so agents can move their talents to Europe, yet retain a large amount of their financial rights

Thats a good point, but most of their South American talent were picked based on their perforamances when they represented their U20 or U18 national teams.

And many of us knew them before they join Porto.

All of that is true, it's just so annoying!

Imagine if we could do what Porto did! We would be unstoppable!
