FFP - 21 Man Squad Restriction & Homegrown Quota

Based on the assumption that we have 13 and 8 and based on current speculation on players coming and going then we could see something like

Zabaleta
Kolarov
Fernandinho
Kompany
Nasri
Toure
Aguero
Silva
Dzeko
Garcia
DeMichelis
Jovetic
Fernando

The 4 association could be:
Hart
Clichy
New Keeper
TBC

The only club trained player would be:
Boyata

Nastasic would be on the B List. That would mean the Beast, Navas, maybe Sagna and Benatia if they join, are left out of the squad. It would then make real sense for us to go for someone like Fabregas as he could go on the Homegrown list. and possibly move Garcia on to bring in another wide midfielder.

We wouldn't have to register players like Lopes, Huws or Lawlor as they would be on the B list.

It's not a total disaster but it means we will have to be very nice and careful with any players not included in the Champions League list. It would also mean a squad of 18 players plus kids for the Champions League.

It seems a number are missing the point as to why this could have a negative impact. It's not the strength of our squad that's the concern it's how this will go down in the dressing room. Players aren't going to be best pleased if they are told they are not being registered to play in the Champions League.

It's not all doom and gloom but for me that's a legitimate concern.

We're talking about maybe 8 games if we get out of the group, which compares to the 45 or more we'll possibly play in the domestic competitions. And it's just for one season.

Looking at last season, the 13 foreign could be:
Zabaleta
Kolarov
Fernandinho
Kompany
Nasri
Toure
Aguero
Silva
Dzeko
Garcia
DeMichelis
Jovetic

The 4 association could be:
Hart
Clichy
Milner
Rodwell

The 4 club could be:
Richards/Boyata
Rekik
Huws
Lopes

Negredo, Pantilimon & Nastasic lose out from last season but I'm not convinced that the first two will be here anyway. Any new foreign signings may miss out for a season unless Fernando replaces Garcia. Sagna can be used to give Zab a rest in the PL. If Mangala or another centre back comes in then they can be used more domestically instead of DeMichelis. There's nothing to stop us giving them any CL bonus payment anyway. It's an irritant but, for the sake of 8 games, not a disaster. If we get any further than R16 then it's not even affected us negatively at all.

As others have said I agree with what your saying, and one or two tweaks here and there then it doesn't look as doom and gloom as some people are anticipating.

I'd add Fernando to the 12 listed above, and id have Mangal/Benatia in the CL squad ahead of Demichelis.

Rodwell to make way for an association trained GK

Like you said its 6 group games with the hope of maybe 2 or 4 on top of that

I'm still anticipating the sale of one or two of our players from your list above

So still nobody knows what the rule is, but some think it'll be the death of us if it's 13, even though we finished bottom of the fucking group under Mancini then finished level on points with Bayern the fiollowing season, as well as wiining the double.

But if we don't win the group next season, we're all doomed. My arse.

And many people are certain that Sheikh Mansour planned to chuck us another 100 milion to spunk on players & now he can't & we have to suffer with just the 50.

It's just terrible.

Fail to prepare. Prepare to fail!

I'm lost as to how some people are coming to the conclusion that the likes of Sagna, Fernando, Mangala or Benetia would sign for us knowing they aren't going to get in the CL squad

They would be coming to us with the hope of winning the damn thing

For me you'd take out Garcia and Demichelis and replace them with Fernando and Mangala/Benetia

If the above goes smoothly and we sign Fernando and Mangala/Benatia then I think the only solution to the RB problem is to make Richards see out his contract and get him fit

We dont know how the dressing room will react to it. Maybe the ones not being able to play in CL will take it like "take one for the team".

Maybe if we tell Jovetic or someone else that he is not playing in CL he will ask why not Silva, Agüero, Zab, nasri getting this decision?
Or he will instantly put in a transfer request. Of course thats worst case scenario.
(Uefa would love that tho and g14 cartel too as they would be coming for a player like him.)

Maybe we are doing some trade, like the ones cant play in CL will be starting the big games in PL. If Pelle thinks so.:)

As we have no domestic cup games apart from a few League Cup games, offering some good League Cup games doesnt come close to CL group stage games...

Hardly any foreign players signs for English top clubs for League Cup playing time.

Well, that seems pretty conclusive. That's a definite restriction on us then, there will be some high profile, highly paid individuals watching the Champion's League from the stand this season then. I simple can't see how this wouldn't affect our summer transfer prospects.

Absolutely ... although I want an email from her confirming what she's told me on the phone.

I'm surprised people are surprised by this, as I always expected the squad size reduction to mean exactly what she's saying it means.

I think the surprise comes from people looking at how restrictive this one actually is (VERY in my mind) and thinking there's no way City would have agreed to something with such an impact on us. The fact City's official statement talked about us "only registering 23 last season, and only using 21, so material effect" as well would have mislead a few. I reckon, if we were to look at how many foreign players we used last season it would exceed the 13 we can now register.

you may wish to ask your fellow moderator to reconsider his insulting and bollocks comment to me last night, when I was making a similar point

I'm not overly concerned about how these sanctions would effect the dressing room because we do have squad players like Negredo and Garcia who are unlikely to cause too much fuss about not being registered next season.
