FFP - 21 Man Squad Restriction & Homegrown Quota

Still no emailed confirmation from UEFA. I've just called them again and their media spokesperson ensures me that I will receive a reply and that the rules are in fact 13 + 4 + 4.

As an aside, she sounds fit as fuck. Top phone voice.

I'll be amazed if it's not 13-4-4. Nothing of what UEFA has done so far is suggestive of a benevolent City loving benefactor. The lack of public clarity over the issue (from both UEFA and City) is curious though.......

If Rodwell is leaving, any chance of a 1 year deal for Barry + New York after?
I would imagine it isn't completely out of the equation but considering Pellegrini made the decision to move Barry on loan and keep Rodwell could mean Barry might not favor that move.

He will also get a nice signing on bonus at his next club, more than what a contract renewal would give him.

Good thinking, but for me he's too pedestrian. Don't know how many times I saw him arrive late in the tackle last season, and the added intensity of the Champions League games means that it's these games where his lack of pace is really shown up

Not a chance LC. We had the opportunity to extend his contract or keep him for the remainder but decided against that and I doubt he would be willing to stay,

To be fair, would you expect her to know the intricate details of the settlement? She may be just saying what she is told to say (there is no come back on her)

I will await to see what the club says

I think we'd prefer the 2.5m fee,the 100k off the books and a squad place becoming available.

This has to be handled carefully, some players can be really unhappy after they wont be picked for CL squad.

Telling anyone from the current squad they are not on the list while they see some incoming new players on the CL list, that can raise questions ...

Imagine if we say to Yaya he wont be picked. He and his agent wouldnt swallow it for sure.
Of course we wont do that, but why it is sure a reaction from Jovetic/Negredo/Garcia would be lot less serious?

Pretty shit punishment as it forces Pellegrini to choose the least importart few players or the foreign group. It cant have a positive effect on the dressing room, or on the players individually.
And we have "punish" a few players with this when the club and the financial decisions of the club led to this situation. So its not like the player gets a red card and out for 3 matches.
Here the club made something (did we try to cook the books to avoid FFP fine trough IP deals?) and the players have to be punished, and only 2-3-4-5 of them.

I think some are underestimating this problem.
I hope it wont go as far as some players hand in transfer requests.

It was first leaked that we were facing squad restrictions about 3 weeks ago. Since then we've been negotiating with UEFA before deciding whether to accept the penalties, which have been described by the club as a compromise. Surely at least half a day of those discussions would have focused on how many foreign players we would be allowed? I just cant see City making a decision on whether or not to accept the sanctions without first having nailed that point.

Agree with the above. As I have said earlier in the thread, it could be that both UEFA and City are waiting for the 10 day appeal period to elapse before issuing a clarification thus avoiding the noise of the likes of Wenger for a short while at least.

Good thinking! I know there are people who disagree with me but all I can see is a classic compromise situation, something like OK don't take this all the way (because we know we would lose) but lets give you some quite neutral sanctions, the headline being a £50 million fine (which turns out to be nothing of the sort) but lets make the plastic masses think we are punishing you
That's how I've seen it since the club statement was released. €20 million retention of winnings is all we're willing to budge on since the rest of it falls under our plans anyway. It's also why I'm still of the 17+4 mind, 13+8 is just too harmful to us.
