Fickle fans

Having only been a City fan for every one of my 48 yrs, and seasoncard holder who lives overseas, I am dumbfounded by some of the nonsense I read about things at City.

We won the FA Cup last year and broke the drought
We are top of the league
We are breaking scoring records FOR
We are breaking scoring records AGAINST
We have most clean sheets in the league
We have one of the best managers in the world
We have a world class stadium
We have the best owners in the world
We are debt free
We NOW have the ability to attract world class players
We HAVE world class players in our team

And, for those of you who have only been a City fan for a few years, because you have only seen onwards and upwards:

We are not in a relegation battle.......in the Championship
We do not need to score two goals in injury time at Wembley to get into the Championship
We do not have local derbies with Macclesfield and Stockport
We do not have a revolving door on the Manager's Office
We are not attracting the aging dregs of world football in the hopes that they've "still got it"

Yes, we got beat by one goal by United in the FA Cup after playing 78 minutes with 10 players
Yes, we lost a two legged SF to Liverpool, after losing the home leg, and drawing 2-2 at Anfield
Yes, we have had a few bad games this season
Yes, some of the world class players are tired after "two or three a week" for the past 60 days
Yes, we are missing a few key players, but have a squad that should be able to cope

So, forgive me for saying, but WHO THE FUCK HAVE WE BECOME?

I EXPECT rags to whine about the above!
I EXPECT bin dippers to think the above is not good enough!
I EXPECT Norf Lahndahners to not be satisfied with it all!

I EXPECT REAL CITY FANS to realize that the Blue Moon Is Rising and, while there will be a bump or two along the road to success, there is NOT A SINGLE DOUBT that we are living the best era of being a City fan for 40 years, and possibly EVER!

I LOVE CITY! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED CITY! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE CITY!

AND, TODAY, WE ARE THE BEST CITY I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!

CTID,

ChicagoBlue

P.S. "We're Man City, we'll score when we want!"
Really?
THAT is the NEW Man City?
Don't like it.
Don't like it one bit.
It is NOT the Man City I know and love.

We can do better!

Excellent post, pal. It has reminded me how lucky we really are at the moment, after the disappointment of Weds night.

basically, prestwich, did the goalie really throw the match.
We must have started supporting City around the same time so, like me, you'll remember the tension of the last few weeks of the 1967/68 season as every match became a cup final and we were all frantically working out goal average and which team was going to win which game and by which score. There weren't internet forums in those days but it would have been just the same then as it is now if there had been. Or in 1978, when we threw away any chance of the title with a terrible run in the last couple of months.

I don't like it when City fans think their way is the only way to support the club and slag off other City fans, something you seem to do a lot. Your first post was slagging off blues who didn't happen to fit your picture of what a fan should be. Here is part of it:
is entitled to their own opinion and mine is if you think richards is sh..t and Ade is sh..t and barryis sh..t and hughes is a welsh ba...d then you could find a different hobby. Support the club and you will be able to enjoy the success that is coming, some of you though im afraid do not deserve it at present. Some old ones moaning near me in the ground and they should know better. 1st and probably last post.
And here's some more:
Agree ,sky blue, we used to have proper fans
embarrassed to be a city fan today, 40 years 800 games, we still mess it up . didnt go today as couldnt face the idiots near me slagging everyone off.
People like you and Chicagoblue peddle this simplistic notion that we are or should be somehow different to any other fans and shouldn't criticise. Of course, you never moan and always have confidence in your team:
Probably, the first time I have ever moaned at a game, and left early t go and watch arsenal. Before you say 7 out of 9, we will start losing once we start to pay better teams in the next few weeks, if something drastic not done. Not happy with the managers tactics and awareness,

That's just a sample. Are you absolutely SURE you're a blue? Just asking.

PRESTWICH If someone says, Onuha, you are ball watching crosses from the right, blind spot behind you, oh dear a forward has nipped in again to score, fair enough.
if someone shouts, Barry you are tackling with your arms again, giving away needless free kicks, i will agree.
If someone had moaned about Kompany leaving the ground when tackling, couldnt disagree.
What I abhor is people slagging my club off without reason.
Yes, I never moan at a match, can only see it as a negative, prefer to will the team on to victory.
AS FOR YOUR ENQUIRY AM i really a blue ?
seen city in 84 different stadiums, spent hundreds of thousands, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Think I pricked something with the reference to STOKE

Having read through the thread I have nothing but respect for the guys that fly over from Canada and the US.

I am being totally honest here and maybe more on here should be, so here it goes.....................................

I am struggling with the pressure, there I said it.............

To the point where I feel sick with worry, feel really ill when we lose and I mean ill to the point where I think it isnt worth feeling this bad.

Im 43 Ive seen everything and I must say that I never felt this stressed, worried, nervous or as sick when we were getting relegated.

I think Kolorov, Dzeko, Savic are the players that may unhinge our plans to win the title but they are not the worst players we have ever had by a long ,long way, its just that our feelings are amplified by this pressure of trying to win the Premier League.

Maybe its the years of being put down, maybe deep down we fear that fate will have it that it will be the dreaded scum from down the road that will rip our hearts out again, maybe its because we feel that its us against the world, the media, the refs, the FA and with some justification.

But we are on the rollercoaster now, the belt is fastened and the ride is 3/5 of the way through. I want this title more than anything and we as fans can and should play our part.

I have no voice after every game but yet I see plenty around me silent, we are too nice as a club and as fans. The scum and the likes of Liverpool appeal for everything, corners, throw ins, penalties etc etc.

Eastlands must become a couldren for the final 8 or so home games.

As for being fickle, I just think there are several more thousand like me who are also feeling this pressure.

Count me as one those several thousand.I am the same age as you,and am going through exactly what you have described above.

Me too. 48 and feeling pressure. Great posts from the OP and other faraway blues.

As another of similar age, 49 just, I have to agree with this post.
Followed City at live games for 38 years now and had a season ticket for most of that time.
I have always been passionate about City and watching them has always been my ascape from the other pressures in life, be it family, work, money or poor health.
If you look around the City crowd at any home or away match, you will see a mix of young, middle aged, old and obviously new fans.
We all have to intergrate into the City way of life, we've all done it.
My first days as an 10/11 year old, catching the 53 bus from Stretford to the Princess Pub, walking to the ground following the away fans under police escort and then taking may favorite place in the Kippax will never be forgotten. Then there's the atmosphere, the passion and noise streamiing down onto the pitch from the terraces at Maine Road, the alleys and dodging dog shit, Helen sat near the ticket office by the North Stand, the Police Sergeant who stood on the tunnel between the City and away fans in the Kippax, the running battles around the side streets, all memories I will never forget and of course the teams, good and bad, predominently bad.
Now ladies and gents, the likes of me from some 38 years ago are still turning upto their first games at the Etihad, what will they remember? what will strike them as the thing that will keep them coming, instilling that ingrained passion that will ensure no other team matters and that they must get their arse to the game no matter what???.
Then it's probably going to be the team, because we as fans rarely generate the passion created at Maine Road, the place is a morgue more often than not.
Okay, City Place is nice, the stadium is nice and clean, the facilities are top notch but what about the passion.
Fuck me, at Liverpool on Wednesday we had a bit of a shout yes, but I was stood with many fans who simply shout abuse at one or two players, led to a bit of a fall out with one or two lads who to be honest, were that pissed they couldn't see straight, let alone knoiw who they were giving abuse too.
We should put all our energies into generating a memorable atmosphere and experience for the fans and players, the club can do their match experience rubbish all they like, but it's us, the fans that must go to enjoy ourselves and shout for the team, Christ, imagine if we did that, the team would walk almost every game and really give us all a memorable time, anf the new fans will in 30 years tell their kids and grand kids, the Etihad was the dogs bollocks......

Top post.

I've said it before, forget all this bollocks about a singing section, all you have to do is put 15 lads together in each stand who sing. Once the songs start the rest of the stand will follow because that's what we do, we follow the atmosphere. It happened in the North stand and the Main stand at Maine Road and it can happen again.

Thats what you get with success - NEW FANS WHO KNOW FOOK ALL.
Fuck all to do with new fans and everything to do with the hardcore misery seekers who've always followed us getting more and more irritated that their chances to be miserable are under a title challenge threat that we are in pole position to win.

the maine road moaners have been out in full force during the last half a dozen or so games. a guy sat a few rows behind me on sunday felt the need to shout his disdain at nasri no matter what he did:

"wrong way!" (after he passed it sideways in tottenham's half)
"come on, nasri.....fuckin' go for it!" (as in 'head it!' -- shouted with anger after the ball was -- i shit you not -- about 30 foot over samir's head)
etc.

anyway, some great posts in this thread. makes me proud to be a blue.

[goes to wipe away tear but pokes self in eye]
