FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

She does just talk and talk, and sometimes things make no sense at all.
Fara Williams in the studio also joins in the mangling of idioms "I was off my feet whenever James got the ball" - what does that mean?!

Ellen White is far better than I thought she might be - fairly clear, not overly wordy.
Are you sure she didn't say "I was off my fee-h"

I'm watching the Pan v Jam game and there's summat up with our telly or their audio feed 'cos I'm getting an echo chamber on the end of each sentence - the ball, the ball the ball! The commentary on football these days, both men and women is gruesome but three times?

Incidentally,I think were this game between a set of Le Creuset pans and eleven jars of Robertson's jam we've have had a goal by now! Hey ho, back to the rugby!

He is. My daughter spent some time with him recently doing filming for M&S for an advert prior to the World Cup.

Yes he's getting paid, but he doesn't have to do it, he could do something else. He wants to be involved, and good for him.
Totally. It's really obvious when someone's just paying lip service. He's genuinely knowledgeable about women's football, he's on great terms with a lot of the players and also uses his clout to platform women working on smaller projects around the game. I think he wants to help create a space where someone like his granddaughter (who already looks insanely good for her age) can aspire to become the best player she can be. I dunno why anyone wouldnt the same for their own families either tbh. I find it genuinely baffling that people would waste their time derailing these threads year after year with their tedious takes. Most people know the standard isn't the same as the men's and there's nothing particularly clever about pointing that out. It's a version of the game that was deliberately stifled for decades and it's playing catch up. Seeing people want to work towards improvement and enjoying the ride can only be a positive thing.

Just to wind you up and get your blood pressure up to it’s daily level:-) and for you to mention clogging up threads is a bit rich

Wouldn't it be easier to just not watch if it bothers you so much ?

There is clearly an interest in the women's game which the tv exposure confirms, but clearly isn't what others choose to watch.

The channel selector is your friend.

Exactly this. Comparisons are futile - they are entirely different products. The women's game should be allowed to find its way and to continue to entertain those that enjoy watching it.

Yep. If people want to ignore it then fine but I don't understand why people want to tear it down or act like it's being imposed upon them. And I definitely don't understand why people want to make totally uninformed comments about it that simply aren't true.

It's hard not to compare the women's game to what we see in the men's game.
I am trying not to be brutal, as the women's game is still in its infancy, and there is decades of catching up to do.
On the plus side the world Cup being televised does expose the game to young girls, and definitely will inspire them to play.
But the level is weak right now. The games are difficult to get excited about.
As a world political tool for equality they do a good job, but the sporting side needs to up its game considerably.
It will be interesting to see the level in 2 world cups time.
