FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

It’s a bit daft comparing it to the mens game so I won’t. What I think I see though is an England team that looks a shadow of the side that won the Euros. I know they have injuries but there seems little strength in depth. The game against Denmark was pretty shapeless with neither team capable of implementing possession football.
it was a poor advert for the womens game.

Just watching Switzerland vs N Zealand - ball flicks players hand in the box… apparently you can’t give a pen for that despite N Zealand appealing Says the commentator and VAR agree. Clearly a new and more sensible interpretation of the rules since the FA cup Final.

i hope that is the case, some of the "penalties" last season were a joke

We don't have a driving and driven midfield so the team awaits a little bit of individual quality that appeared from James. England can win this World Cup but they won't be winning it as the best team.

I've just switched on the Sui v NZL game and guess what? It's 0-0. And as they traipsed off the commentator said someone needs to find a goal! Perhaps they could have a raffle at HT.

The 'waffle' at HT is on in the background and I sense that the Arse coach is making a cogent explanation of what they've seen but ne'er any allusion to a good few seconds of football that finishes with the ball bouncing off a shin instead of a Mahrez trap. Mind he's just described a Norwegian header as 'powerful' when it looped over the goalkeeper.

Not a scrap of power compared to Vinnies goal with the Silva assist - now who was that against? Seem to recall it was just on HT.

Would have been given if the Rags were the beneficiary!

On a positive note, I do like the NZ kit. I shall have to 'wiki' and find out who provides it. Oh and the Swiss women are 'La Nati, as the England women are lionesses. I think it has summat to do with 'born', but not born to play football.

Oh goody, Betsy's on. C'mon NZ!

I wonder if the substantial added time in these latest World Cups includes the time from when a player is clearly offside to when the game acknowledges the offside and the lino-ess finally raises the flag. There was a good ten seconds there!

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that this pitch has been lubricated with a fulsome dollop of Tate 'n Lyle's Golden Syrup.
