First job,first wage.

First job was a paper round, I left school in 63 and started as a mechanic at William Arnolds on Upper Brook street Ardwick, think I got £1. 6s a week, I cycled from Charlestown Road to Ardwick every work day in all weather's, don't know the bloody born these days.

First month's salary from Rochdale Council was £47/4/11 - old money! That was for a 60 hour week. At the chalk face!

I think I got as much sweating buckets making ginger and fig biscuits at The CWS Biscuit Factory at Crumpsall - three years earlier!

I had a paper round for about £12 a week including coming in on Saturday/Sunday to put the supplements in. Then in Sixth Form, I worked at Currys for (I think) about £3.70 an hour. That was good because they had the full Sky package, so you could watch the football. Was a bit weird having to do credit checks on people three times my age though. Actually, the accidentally started me on £2.70 an hour, which was below minimum wage, so when they realised, they had to give me a free Gamecube to make up the difference.
