Here is the rule for Thursday nights on channel 5:

A Club engaged in any match played in a UEFA competition on a Thursday evening and a
League Match on the following Saturday may rearrange the League Match to the following
Sunday provided that:
7.1 it gives notice to that effect to the Secretary and to its League Match opposing Club
within 72 hours of the date of the UEFA match being fixed (or, if the period of 72 hours
expires on a day which is not aWorking Day, by close of business on the firstWorking
Day thereafter);
7.2 there is no police objection;
109
RULES: SECTION E
7.3 the rearrangement of the League Match does not result in the opposing Club having to
play another League Match, F.A. Cup match or UEFA match within 2 days of the

rearranged League Match being played.

Surely this logic should be applied to our case with liverpool and the liverpool game should be put back or the sunderland game brought forward.

No, because before TV got involved there was only 1 day between the games and that remains the case.
This always happens around Christmas (last 2 seasons we played 26th and 28th December with 1 day between)
As mentioned by someone else on this thread moving the Chelsea game gives us extra recovery time before that game after Munich at home so it's swings and roundabouts. Much as I'm personally pissed off as I now need time off to go to that I wouldn't have needed before.
Our squad should be more than able to cope anyhow.

Precisely what I was about to point out.

Don't really see the point in whining about 1 day more of rest. December isn't, and never has, been a month of rest. It's on occasions like these our depth of squad should prove to be at our advantage.

FFS, no chance of us taking the full allocation for Chelsea now, Sky are absolute bastards putting this on a Monday night.

It's a joke. And they've been doing this with Monday night games ever since the inaugural round of matches of the Premier League back in 1992 when they shat all over QPR's fans by expecting them to travel all the way up to our place. They really don't give a shit about away fans do they? Monday night matches should be restricted to matches between teams no more than 80 miles or so apart, for example the likes of City v Villa or vice versa being the maximum limit in terms of distance from each other. I know that causes problems with the likes of the North East clubs and Swansea because they're geographically isolated but the simple answer is to not stick those teams on on a Monday night and give them Saturday/Sunday games instead. I'm sure Sky could easily fill their quota of Monday night games regardless of those restrictions.

Coudnt agree more, this should be part of a football fans charter - swansea at ours on a monday was a similar example of how the fans are not considered - its a disgrace.

However, with regards to whether we will sell out - we played arsenal last year midweek, took the smaller allocation and sold it out. Lots compained that they couldnt get tickets. We will easily sell the smaller allocation imo as this will be one of the big games every1 wants to see. Can see us selling out the full allocation if we take it!! City playing at chelsea these days is something to look forward to as opposed to dreading it,

People like this have nothing to moan about, the fixtures at the start of the season are always advertised as 'subject to change' and when Sky released their tv picks at the start of the season it was blatantly obvious that nothing past November had been decided at that time.

Basically it's his own fault for assuming what he did.

My mate has already booked trains for Chelsea away, he booked Friday to Monday morning thinking the game was bound to fall in between those times. I've just been to give him the bad news, he said can this day get any worse !

This was a point I made. But Whilst we have a deep squad. If we play say:

Hart
Richards Kompany Lescott Clichy
Silva De Jong Yaya Nasri
Aguero Dzeko

and

Hart
Zabaleta Kolo Savic Kolarov
Johnson Hargreaves Barry Milner
Balotelli Player X

We are either going to be pretty under strength in 1 game or we can mix and match both and be a bit understrength.

I wouldn't fancy us with half full side and half reserves v liverpool full 11 to get 3 points not guaranteed anyway.

And if we decide to go for that game and play 2nd string v sunderland we could lose all points there.

The fact is: the principle of 2 games in 3 days is fine. But only when the opposition have the same conditions. This just isn't fair.

And why could City not play on Wednesday and United on Tuesday?

The traditional Christmas Day and Boxing Day double headers should be brought back.

Absolute joke... Was gna spend New Years Eve in Newcastle after the Sunderland game !.. Long journey up there hanging out your arse on New Years Day !..

I once spent new years eve in Sunderland after a City match. It was probably in 1967. City lost 1-0 and it was the most miserable evening I can recall.

The pubs shut at 10:30 despite being a Saturday night and New Years Eve! We were attacked by a group of Sunderland nutters leaving the pub to add injury to insult.

Most of my mates had left Sunderland after the match and stopped at Pontefract on the way back and had a brilliant time. The pubs there had late opening till after midnight and the locals were friendly.

I will certainly go down for the match now but would not have travelled for New Years Eve.
