Flooding in Stockport

I seem to remember when I was a kid loads of wagons with long tube hoover thingys that sucked everything out of the drains on a very regular basis. I'm sure they were that MCC colour like the bin wagons. Claret colour?

Mind you the streets were empty back then and no cars parked blocking the drain covers from being accessed.

Not like they weren't warned. Council should pick up any costs that insurers wont cover.

Ye true but also I think people need to help themselves as well, the other morning whilst walking the dogs I cleared 3 grids on our street that had shit loads of leaves on them, the water then just went down instead of building up, this isn’t a look at me comment but let’s face it if we don’t do it no other fucker is, for the sake of 5 mins outside your own house it could help immensely, sane reason I pick up bottles in the park after selfish twats have been there over the weekend, no other fucker us doing it takes me 2 mins and makes it better. I’m not saying it solves the problem totally but it helps.

I don’t think it’s blocked drains anymore I think it’s the amount of water in them eventually they fill up

I do the same as you and pick up rubbish and use my pressure washer down the drain outside my house. But I am afraid we are in a very small minority.

It is like when they come with the road sweeper and it has to slalom down the road to avoid all the parked vehicles.

Local authorities have been far too quick to approve housing on flood plains. Why? They see income from rates and an increase in economic activity and also planning gain.
Happening up and down the Country…only going to get worse with all the let’s build, build, build promises being made. Devastating for those affected.
