So much for CHAMPIONS getting Pot 1!!

Did that only last for 1 year or am I conflating issues? I thought the Champions of the top leagues got a Pot 1 designation?

UEFA Website:

The holders, the UEFA Europa League winners and six national champions were placed in Pot 1. Only three teams from Pot 1 last season – Manchester City, Bayern München and Paris Saint-Germain – featured in this group again this time round.
New format, new rules.

"Article 16: Draw system – league phase
16.01A draw, which may be conducted digitally, determines the pairings for the league phase. The 36 clubs are divided into four pots of nine clubs. The pots are composed according to the club coefficient rankings established at the beginning of the season (see Annex D) and with the UEFA Champions League titleholder being the top seed in pot 1.

16.02
The opponents of each team, as well as whether each match is played at home or away, are determined by means of a draw. Each team is drawn against two opponents from each of the four pots and plays one opponent from each pot at home, and the other away. In principle, teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other and each team may play against a maximum of two opponents from any other one association, subject to Paragraph 16.03.

16.03
The UEFA administration may determine alternative conditions for the draw in accordance with the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee and may adapt any of the conditions of the draw to avoid deadlock situations and/or take into account any relevant constraints in light of decisions taken by the UEFA Executive Committee."

City is leading the coefficient ranking and will be in pot 1.

Sorry for derailing the thread, back to Wirtz.....

Cheers!

Can’t keep up!

Sadly, simply not possible. Small town, Bayer their Sugar Daddy. Dortmund lite is their best possibility.

Bayern is big city, massive stadium, owns big money sponsors.
It is an era for everything, but Bayern have dominated the Bundesliga mostly since 1980s, in history Dortmund and Leverkusen have been challanging Bayern. Leverkusen where good when did have Ulf Kirsten, Berndt Schneider, Olivier Neuville, Berbatov, Lucio, Ramelow etc.

Oh, they have proved they can be good, but they’re not anywhere close to supplanting Dortmund, let alone Big Daddy Bayern!

I hope they have a good run in and can finish as Germany’s Invincibles, and do well in the CL next season.

Thereafter, it’d be nice to smuggle them both (Alonso & Wirtz) to Manchester…if Pep doesn’t re-up!

I think people forget how much $$$$ it would cost to keep KDB as a squad player, unless he is willing to take a 50% pay cut.
He’s worth every penny.

Currently he’s had an injury struck season but his stats are great. If fit he’s first choice.

He might take a pay cut when that changes but health depending he’s one of the best players in the world.

Give him the respect he deserves.

I have no problem giving King Kev the respect he deserves, which is substantial. I’m simply pointing out the realities of life under the proposed new FFP rules for the PL.

Hard choices are going to have to be made, by both players and clubs.
