By the start of season 26-27, I very much doubt we’ll have any of de Bruyne, Gundogan, Bernardo, Kovavic, or Nunes at the club, and we might not have Grealish either. We’re clearly prepared to carry defenders until the defence thins out, so it would make sense to do so with the midfield, too. Last year, any suggestion of signing more was shot down with the retort: ‘where will they all play?’, but it was blindingly obvious last season that the squad was soon going to hit the wall, and it’s blindingly obvious that the extra workload carried by some this season will take its toll next year, especially with the summer tournament. Simply put, this season will not be a one-off unless we get more bodies in and rotate more frequently; it might feel like a luxury, true, but it will make the transition into 26-27 much smoother and it will safeguard us from collapsing when we suffer an injury to one key player.

only one of them is an AM/10 though, i think we'll buy another mid after this possible Wirtz bid but wont be another AM, will be a 6 and/or 8 imo

Would be an incredible signing as a 10 with Mamoush and Savinho wide with Rodri and Nico cm. A right back and a GK we would be good to go. Foden gonna have to up it to claim a spot in the side.

Im not understanding how somebody watches that newcastle game, likes what they saw, and first thought is that Wirtz is needed.

We need a Gundogan replacement.
We need a Stones/Ake/Akanji replacement.
We need an Eddie replacement.

Those 3 played well but were the oldest and are either too old, injury prone, and/or want to leave.

Whereas Foden in the 10 (Wirtz spot) played well and has Bobb, Echeverri, McAtee who are young and can easily deputize.

Dont get me wrong, Wirtz is a phenomenal talent and if available we can never say no.

But I doubt we have funds for him and the other more importants positions we need.

think it comes down to the bolded bit right now, we're not close to being hamstrung by cash PSR next summer. A Gundo, Eddie and an unlikely CB addition isn't setting us back alot I expect.

I think its atleast 1 GK (2 if both leaves and thats a possible scenario), 1 or 2 Defenders (CB and RB), and while I said Gundgon replacement, ideally, we also bring in another to replace Kova or Bernie (I dont see the reason to keep both with O Reilly as a backup).

Thats 5 or 6 players, and I would want quality replacements here.

Thats gonna be atleast 250m imo.

Im not seeing how we afford Wirtz.

Think it depends who leaves, from Gundogan, Kovacic, KDB, Bernardo, Ederson( assuming Walker, Phillips and Nunes go). If 3 of those midfielders go priority will be a full back, Keeper, an 8. Only then if we have room and the money which we probably would should we be targetting another 10 IMO at least.
Not saying we shouldn’t but not the priority.

think that'll be it regardless, squad space is still tight for CL, we're over already and ive got 8 earmarked to leave on my list already (Ederson, Walker, Grealish, Gundo, Kova, Phillips, Nunes, KDB) even then one of the 4 in has to be HG.

Gonna be interesting summer, ngl would love this kid in the mix though.

Yes that matches my thinking, except don’t think Grealish goes unless we have a homegown player in mind.

KDB is the best player we've ever had and needs to be replaced. We have the funds.

Time for Troyes to buy Phillips and Nunes for £175m.
 
Think we’d probably be 3rd or 4th choice for Wirtz, so we need to make an offer that others struggle to match, to thin it out a bit.

Kdb has been replaced.

Foden is playing the 10.

Marmoush is doing it in a different way.

Bobb, Echeverri, McAtee can all do it certain ways as well.

The academy apparentlly has this crazy talent in Mukasa who can join in.

I suppose my main issur is with your last line "We have the funds".

Do we?

If we sign for the other more important positions (which I said would be 4-6 players), AND THEN if there is somehow funds to get Wirtz. Then we should do it.

But unless some ITK comes out and says there is some crazy warchest in the summer (more than 300m) Im not sure.
