Florian Wirtz

Im not understanding how somebody watches that newcastle game, likes what they saw, and first thought is that Wirtz is needed.

We need a Gundogan replacement.
We need a Stones/Ake/Akanji replacement.
We need an Eddie replacement.

Those 3 played well but were the oldest and are either too old, injury prone, and/or want to leave.

Whereas Foden in the 10 (Wirtz spot) played well and has Bobb, Echeverri, McAtee who are young and can easily deputize.

Dont get me wrong, Wirtz is a phenomenal talent and if available we can never say no.

But I doubt we have funds for him and the other more importants positions we need.
Financially when you consider that we will defintely lose Walker' wages plus lmost certainly Gundo's wages off the books plus others (nunes, maybe even Kovacic and then you would also think KDB's (who is joint top earner) - then you would think financially we would be making room for him...our outlay recently up until this winter has been pretty small and I think we have room for more.

Wirtz is about a close a KDB clone as it gets. We need squad depth (pep has made a joke about it recently saying we need 40 players) but Im pretty sure he is only half joking and that he has somewhat changed his mind on his notion of only ever working with small squads due to the ever increasing demands on players physicality.

Im not sure we need an Eddie replacement - his form has been poor Id agree but i think that is due to mentality rather than physical ability....he is at prime age for a GK as well and if we are to continue our style of play then he is the best (he aint the best shot stopper Id agree but you even notice the difference in our build up when Ortega is there - and he is about as good a s second keeper you are going to get) - Of course, if he wants to leave and his head has been turned by say an offer from Saudi then you are correct.

I agree on the replacement for a Stones/Ake/Akanji - the first two are worringly injury prone but there is again no doubting their quality - Stones especially makes a huge difference.

Kdb has been replaced.

Foden is playing the 10.

Marmoush is doing it in a different way.

Bobb, Echeverri, McAtee can all do it certain ways as well.

The academy apparentlly has this crazy talent in Mukasa who can join in.

I suppose my main issur is with your last line "We have the funds".

Do we?

If we sign for the other more important positions (which I said would be 4-6 players), AND THEN if there is somehow funds to get Wirtz. Then we should do it.

But unless some ITK comes out and says there is some crazy warchest in the summer (more than 300m) Im not sure.
Mansour could sell the hotel to Khaldoon and raise another £500m.

Bobb, Echeverri, McAtee can all do it certain ways as well - you are presuming any of these have the quality to make it at the very top

The academy apparentlly has this crazy talent in Mukasa who can join in - again a big presumption

KDB hasn't been replaced, Foden is a goalscorer not a creator. Besides, Foden replaced David Silva. We've always had two high quality attacking midfielders.

Marmoush has replaced Alvarez.

We do have the funds. I've run the numbers and I think we can spend £200m net comfortably this summer (I do this for a living!)

I would assume we'll make sales of about £100m as we always do, which would leave us £300m gross to spend.

We need:
A KDB replacement
A Walker replacement

We may need:
A new GK
A Gundo replacement, depending on how good Nico is.

Wirtz is eminently doable.

You see a lot about us and Pep wanting him, but has there ever been any indication that he is interested in joining us?
I say that as someone who's desperate for us to sign him!
according to gossip there are allegedly 3 clubs he’d rather go to - rm, bayern and liverpool. but who knows if that’s true…

viana was allegedly in germany for that game and meetings were mentioned.

oh and for those who haven’t watched wirtz play, he’s not a foden clone.

Foden did not replace D Silva. Totally different players in completely different positions. Foden is not a midfielder at present. He is a forward.
Silva was the architect of our play and the best City player to pull on the shirt.
Players are rarely replaced like for like.

I wasn't comparing them in terms of attributes, I was just saying that we've always had two AMs and we didn't sign a replacement for David Silva because we had Foden coming through.

The comedy Gold, continues in the transfer forum....Power of the media, making today's youth more interested in transfers than football......and it's all guess work, and opinion lol....only opinion, and knowledge of what we need, is the manager.

If we were to secure Wirtz' services, IMO this is our ideal lineup next season as things stand. Wirtz would thrive with runners in front of him. Luckily we have two of footballs finest runners in Haaland and Marmoush. Unfortunately, Foden or Savio could be the odd man out, unless we dropped Nico for the one holding midfielder, and had a defender push up. This could be opposition dependent. Savio bringing more width and pausa/control. Foden causing more chaos as he drifts inside and offers more goal threat.

This leaves us with the following:
Rotation options for top half: Bobb, Doku, McAtee, Echeverri, Foden/Savio
Rotation options for anywhere: Nunes, O'rielly, Lewis
Rotation options for bottom half: Perrone, Akanji, Ake, Reis

Obviously, a lot can change over the summer. But I think this looks like an absolute powerhouse of a team. Has an abundance of pace, power, grit, and overall technical quality. With a healthy Rodri and maybe one or two more incomings, I reckon we'd be odds on to win the league next season, and with the age of the squad, likely for years to come.

McAtee, O'Reilly, Perrone will not be 'rotating'. They will get minimal mins....unless they are sold.
