Florian Wirtz

Remember all the keyboard warriors calling people fanny wipes etc last summer when others were saying our squad especially midfield wasn't strong enough and kdb waller etc needed replacement..oh we've got Grealish they said, Rodri doesn't need cover.. etc.

Seems some people still don't see the midfield issue amongst other things

Football has cycles, and unfortunately it feels like Liverpool and maybe even Arsenal might better us over the next couple of seasons with smart acquisitions. Still no club seems to have the pulling power of the big 2 in Spain

Liverpool’s cycle could end as soon as Salah, Van Dijk & Alisson leave/retire. Arsenal are 3 points better off than us at our worst in a decade.

This season has been a massive disappointment, but we haven’t been the best, most consistent English team in the past 12 years by accident. We just need to be smart with a few signings and hope players like Doku & Savinho improve in front of goal and we’ll be right back at the top.

Thing is, 150 million over three players will see us shopping at the level of Nunes and Philips again if we want ‘established’, otherwise it’s unproven rough diamonds for that type of money as the alternative.

Dippers have paid the going rate to stay on top. Can only say fair fucks to them if they pull this off with Frimpong and Kerkhez.

If and when we get back there, we need to really hammer it home and not be so modest or looking at net spend repeatedly.
But we clearly can't afford to get Wirtz as well as strengthen the squad properly. Say we went for him and he got a bad injury in the first game, the whole season would be absolutely fucked

In an ideal world, we'd be able to get Wirtz, Reijnders and Gibbs-White. But we're not and we have to do what's best for the squad as a whole

They still need a striker.
Wirtz might be good but if he's threading balls through to nunez it doesn't really matter

Wow, if he goes to Liverpool which is still if that's a huge statement and honestly it's not good for us

Mussing out on a player of his calibre when we are targeting guys like Gibbs-White is worrying

Buy mediocre you become mediocre

I think I am correct in saying that not one, single signing has been confirmed for any, single club.
I'll be holding my gills closed before I start the flapping of the ages.

They’ve literally already replaced Alisson though. They have been moving very decisively, planning ahead (they bought Alisson’s replacement, Mamardashvili, LAST summer)

We on the other hand have been reactionary instead of pro-active, and we’re paying the price for that. We are a long, long way off challenging again.

The history of the PL teaches us that they likely wouldn't.
Honestly man who do you guys think pool are ??? Even in 19/20 when there was nobody to challenge them and barely anyone was good they failed to get 100 pts. Please give it a rest nobody is touching our achievements

If I was Wirtz I’d join Liverpool over us. His mate Frimpong has just joined, they’re league champions and going off this season the football they play is way more appealing that what Peps served up these last 18 months.

Can’t even blame the club if it’s the players choice can we so don’t understand the crying by some.

Just hope we have a decent back up plan. Reijnders is a good start and I’m a fan of Gibbs White tbh, think he’s massively underrated by some on here. Add two new full backs who can actually run and provide some attacking threat and we’ll be alright.

Still a big blow though no getting away from that

Agreed on all of that (didn’t even think of the Frimpong aspect!). Reijnders and MGW are for the midfield 3, though, and not the Kev replacement that Wirtz would’ve been.

The club are right in prioritising the midfield 3 over the Kev role - in my opinion - because it’s the heartbeat of the side and an area we’ve been overrun in time and time again this season.

Wirtz going to the dippers is a big blow because it strengthens the one area I think they’ve struggled with for a while. But enough to throw our window out of kilter and ignore other areas (midfield/full back)? Not for me.

He’d be the cherry on the top of a midfield and fullback-buying cake but not a priority in my view. Other parts of the squad need rehab before that role.

Replaced the best keeper of the last 5 years with a guy who's never played for them?

Yeah, that isn't how it works.

No guarantee Mamardashvili is half as good though. I really don’t think we’re as far off as you’re saying.

No, we are just not prepared to pay what we think is too much.
