Football Manager 2012 - Official Thread - Demo Out Now

Could really use some help with training youngsters. Ill sign a top young prospect from say real madrid, but I am unsure what to do with his training schedule to get the most out of them. I have already wasted around 3 Ronaldoesque kids.

Also how do I get good teams to take my kids on loan? Any help would be appreciated

(also I can't download training schedules since I play on my macbook)

What I normally did when I was at Athletic, is bring the most promising youngsters into my first team squad, made personalised training schedules for them - basically looked at what they're lacking i.e. if they're already pretty technically good, I'd make a training schedule for them which has the aerobic and strength categories up to high or just below high, and the others on medium (depending on what position they are), just make sure its not on 'heavy' though. After I did that I made them 'available for U19s' so they get game time - they seemed to progress really well using this technique, and were usually at a good enough level to provide back up to the first team squad after one year in the U19s. If you're City or a team with a reserve team, just stick them in the reserves and make the personalised training schedules. Once you feel they're at a good enough level to challenge your first team squad, stick them in training schedules you have for your first team, i.e. I make schedules for each role in my tactic. Hope this makes sense, and has helped you!

When I get a prospect depending how good they are I loan them out (to sell on because they are not that good). Or I keep them in my first team and tick the box to let them play for the reserves. 16 year olds get on the bench for cup games once they hit maybe 19 I will loan them out or start them in cup games

Are you using the app version?

I approach training intuitively. You have to pay attention, check up on development, and see what works. It is different for every player, I think. For example, I had a player who's passing ability was inconsistent. Focusing on it didn't work, but fitness training did. The stronger he got the better he passed the ball. I was surprised by that anyway. Sometimes an attribute will not improve.

Avoid buying players whose skills are wildly varied; world class at heading the ball but absolutely no technical skill. I like youth who have a few strong categories, and everything else is solid and can be improved on. If they have a few areas they are poor it becomes harder to develop the player. That might be obvious. I know I've spent big on a couple duds. Sebastian Coates, for example. All the ability, but how do you motivate him?

Advice on motivating lazy players?

....ha, just announced Everton win the league and it's only March 21!

Update:
Just played the last league match, and unfortunately "Evertons unbeaten run of 31 games has come to an end after a 1-0 defeat to a Lucas Leiva inspired Liverpool."

Only the FA Cup and CL finals to go and then I think I'll retire from Everton. It's just too easy now. Shame as the youth were looking promising......

Update (like anyone cares, but let me brag a bit):
Holy smokes!
Dig it, 6 trophies this season!
Champions Cup
Club World Champions
Euro.Super Cup
Premier Division
FA Cup
Community Shield

Career
P-484. W-320. D-100. L-64. F-1043. A-333.
League titles-5
Cup titles-19

Manager rank 1st (whatever that means)
Manager points 6201

Hmmm, should I resign and look for a new club? Or stay around and try doing it again with a much younger squad?

I'm trying to do the Pentagon Challenge.

Currently in my third full season with New England and think I have finally got a team good enough to win the NACL (went out on away goals in the quarter finals last season).

Got Adebayor, Tuncay, Foggia, Bebe (stop laughing, he's been awesome since I signed him) plus a few decent americans including Guzan, Le Toux, Boswell and Soares. Top of the league (qualified for playoffs with 8 games to go) and in the US Cup final.

Currently in 2024 (Sigurdsson was signed for around £30,000,000 by Spurs and he's about 33!), anyway I've left Newcastle and I'll confess... I went to Manchester United for six months. The worst part? I more than likely saved them from relegation and earned them a European spot within six months, sorry guys. Anyway I then left them and joined Dortmund & took the England position. I'm going to stay at Dortmund as the Manchester United move has dirtied me, I need a long spell at a club to cleanse my record.

I wouldn't be them on FIFA however they offered me too much virtual money, my virtual self was sat waiting until the new season started. I was offered a large sum of virtual money for six months work, my virtual jet is nice and shiny.
