A couple of weeks back I was listening to 606 with Ian Wright.
Wright was banging on about lack of investment at Everton and how this would force them to sell Stones to Chelsea. An Everton fan phoned in, a well spoken, clearly a well educated guy and had to explain three times to Wright how this was not the case. How Everton was a well run club, with little or no debt to speak of, they were not desperate for an injection of cash to keep the lights on or pay wages, nor where they owned by leeches desperate to trouser any incoming cash. The money they would have received from selling Stones was a drop in the ocean to the long term financial investment necessary to take Everton to the next level.
As Everton were not desperate for the cash generated from a Stones sale and his absence would dent even the limited ambitions the club has under Kenwright, he predicted they wouldn't sell, now, a few weeks later we know he was correct.
Wright, could not get his head round this and became increasingly vociferous in repeating the same mantra, Everton needed investment, therefore they had to sell Stones and they were only banging on about not selling him to elevate the price. Even when the caller had been cut off he kept returning to it (something idiots do when a little voice in their head keeps repeating "You're Wrong!").
Wright even resorted to saying something along the lines that the caller did not know what he was talking about.
