Football Union Threatens Legal Action

I like the idea of a maximum, but surely it's far too complex for different players?

Pep tends to heavily rotate the forward players who are doing a lot of energetic work in the team, so that, even in our long seasons, they're only playing about as much as an average PL player.

Our defenders make a lot of passes, but they're probably putting in very few high intensity sprints in a game. Even Rodri, who is obviously the most involved player, isn't expected to be chasing 30 yards to close down an opponent, so what's a "Rodri minute" compared with an "Alvarez minute".

And then you have differences in players physicality. Look at Salah, who plays a high intensity game, is absolutely hammered by Liverpool, yet has an injury history that most goalkeepers would be jealous of.

Have different categories of players and make the categorisation dependent on a independent medical assessment council. Appointed and funded by the PL but independent of clubs.

Can you imagine some of the conspiracy theorists on here if Kev is declared 'too tired' just before a Champions League final ;)

I think I could cope. :-) So could most of us. Players play twice a week. Not every week. For the rest of the week they do light training for a couple of hours, gym training, massage, wind down, and relaxing before and after training. Then go home. They also get days off during the week to relax. What needs to be looked at in England is the outdated and historical congested festive fixtures. International friendlies like the one at the start of the season and throughout the season need to be looked at as well. In a normal season if a team isn’t successful players get nearly 9 weeks off in the Summer, after the end of the season and before the start of the new season.
Not at that peak level you couldn’t , players play now with constant niggles but more games and those niggles turn to more stress injuries, plus the mental tiredness. Yes it doesn’t seem like hard work but to stay at an elite level needs more rest and recovery.
Our players are lucky to get 4 weeks off in tournament years, the club world cup will reduce those non tournament years to 1 in 4. Not even counting Copa America.

I know loads of tradesmen in the same boat.
I played Saturday and Sunday then 5 days on my knees tiling floors, I'll be lucky to earn in my entire life what some of our players earn in a couple of months.
High risk,high reward.
Swap to plumbing.

Why should they ? You are paying them for their ability not by the hour
If they don’t want to reduce their wages that’s fair enough, but the clubs and organisation will keep adding more and more games and competitions in order to pay them.

Players regularly run around 12k per game (Bernie 13k) and 3 games in 8 days, thats 36k, whilst someone is trying to kick the shit out of you and sometimes succeeding. Their recovery from injury is accelerated, not natural healing.
Their wages are not a mitigating factor. Get used to more players missing through injury.
