For those that go

In general, the views of the non match goers tend to be in line with the pundits/commentators because they listen to them for 90 minutes. Danny Mills tonight was incredibly negative and so it's not surprising that those who watched it on tele are more critical than those that didn't have to endure him. Same goes for most games most weeks with commentators generally picking holes even when we win.

I'm a season ticket holder but not in the CL cup scheme so watched the game on BT. I honestly block out the commentary so think I view the game better. I hear a bit of what they say but most goes in one ear and straight out the other ear. Being married 19yrs helps.

In car on the way back we all agreed Navas was MOTM.

Getting home, I watced the recording of the last 10 minutes or so of the match. First thing I heard was Darke saying "Navas has failed to impress". Just WTF. Not read other threads but the inference there was that Navas's performance might not have come over as good on TV as it did in the flesh. He was everywhere and TV fails to pick that up.

How thick do you think people are? Do you really think that by a general rule people don't sit there and think "this commentator's talking shit?!" whether it's about their team or not. You must think society is full of complete dullards if you think they are so impressionable and lacking in rational thought that they'd just go along with what commentators and pundits say.

People are, in general, thick, and society is indeed full of complete dullards.

That's harsh. For a person who has seen the whole game, maybe, but think about people just watching the last few minutes or who were only half watching, the commentators' views can leave a lasting impression of a player.

Season ticket holder but couldn't make the match last night. Watched it on BT and I have to say that Danny Mills was unbelievably negative about City. Focused purely on the weaker areas and made no mention of the good stuff. He kept going on about how poor a decision it was to leave Kompany on the bench etc. As if Pellers would not have him in the starting line-up if he was 100%.
Despite some of the comments on here I do believe that you can have your opinion swayed after spending a couple of hours listening to that kind of depressing commentary

I suspect we looked just as vulnerable at the back on the telly as we did from block 327.

Danny Mills tried so hard to make something bigger out of Kompany being on the bench. He brought it up at least 10 times throughout the game and you could tell he wanted Mangala to fuck up so badly. Hate him.He doesn't have sufficient player or tactical knowledge and is all out biased.

Oh and I couldn't make the game last night but I definitely notice a difference between people who attend matches and those who don't. Commentators, pundits, jounalists etc all sway the mind of those who don't attend games, and even some who do. Probably quite a lot of city fans eating up everything Danny Mills said last night and will go spout the same shit to their mates at work, whereas I think match going fans know the media talk utter shite.

Its a shame that 90% of football fans in the England havent got a clue about football in general (I dont think im in a a place to judge football fans in other countries). Its a sad state of affairs when you hear someone slagging Navas off last night when he was putting his utmost effort in for 90 mins and him being one of our best players on the night. Also heard a few having a go at Yaya after the game which is strange considering he had a major hand in both goals which won us the game.

Being a matchgoer in my opinion doesn't really make much of a difference, i know people who have been going for years and they still know fuck all. But i do find the majority of armchair fans have bit of a skewed opinion based on idiotic over analysing of a game.

Over analysing a game ruins football for me, it makes me want to drill a hole in my head, especially when hoddle and likes open their mouths.

Sevilla were brilliant at times to watch last night, easy to see why they have been so successful in europe (albeit the europa league)

And yes i do believe im in the 10% that know what they are talking about. Tin hat in place.

I tend not to read to much into someone's opinions if they don't go generally to watch football, basically they know fuck all!

Was at the game last night and was surprised when I got home to hear how lucky we were, how poor we were etc. Ok we weren't great and we had some luck at times but we aren't going to blow teams away in this competition like we do with relegation fodder like Bournemouth and Newcastle, I don't think that gets taken into account sometimes. Also didn't think Sevilla were as good a side as they had been made out to be, if I'd watched it on tv I'd probably have had different opinions, so yes for me I think there is a difference of opinions between watching a game live and on tv.

You can't understand a game technically and tactically properly from the telly, although you get an idea. However if you sit in the front few rows, especially behind the goals and in the corners, you cannot understand the game you are watching at all. If I was forced to sit there I'd have to watch it at on telly at home before making an opinion.

I think if you're at the game you get to see certain things that you don't see on TV. I'm not sure that there's a huge difference in opinion between those watching live or on the telly though.

The big difference for me is my perception of the officiating. Often when I am at games I've come away thinking the referee was a joke. I've then watched the highlights and thought actually he wasn't as bad as I first thought...

I went last night and didn't think we was half as bad as some are making out. Bony and sterling were poor and zab didn't look fit. Not sure why people are saying are defence was shambolic! I thought otamendi played well and mangala was excellent. Navas was my Motm, he looked a different player.

is there a difference in opinions between those that make the effort to go to matches and this that watch it on TV/t'internet

I think the issue is media/punditry influencing the opinions of those watching on TV. More often than I can count i've watched a match on French TV then switched over to Sky/BT for the post match stuff and their outlook on the match is invariably far more negative and blinkered than my own. I imagine that if you spend 90 minutes listening to Michael Owen or Rio Ferdinand going on and on about how shit City are in Europe then you're likely to come out the other end influenced by those opinions.

I can't imagine any self respecting human being would have their opinion influenced by anything michael owen has to say.

No doubt that where you watch the game from makes a big difference. I have to watch far more games than I would like on TV and it certainly doesn't compare favourably to where my season ticket seats me.
