Forest v City 1989/90 (Gary Crosby goal)

Dont think that goal helped Dibble's long term prospects at City as maybe unrelated we signed Coton that summer. Seem to recall that Dibble was held in pretty high regard by blues at that time and it took Coton a while to win the fans over, or am i remembering wrong?. Dibble stayed at City far too long, was here for years as no 2/3, when if hed left when Coton was the clear no1 he might have had a decent higher level career. Reid clearly didnt fancy him as he picked Margetson before him at times.
You are right about Coton. I remember him getting some abuse at Maine Road and he stuck two fingers up to the Kippax.

Coton liked to give it out...he did the same to the Stretford end in the game when curle equalised. I was in there with about 300 other blues and 2nd half he walked out stood staring at them and just stuck 2 fingers up. Loved Coton, still can’t believe he joined the red shite.

I thought I'd already posted in this thread but cant seem to find it now... clearly going mad due to lockdown...

Dibble's prime years at City were slightly before my time. When I started going to games Coton was number 1 and he became one of my early heroes.

I always got the impression Dibble was likely to make a mistake and I never really rated him, but I was only a kid and probably blinded by loyalty to TC so I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on Dibble and his time at City.

I was a big fan of Dibble as a kid. Definite blue tinted glasses looking back at his performances now on you tube. Some of the goals he let in made Hans Segars say “Fuck me he’s giving the game away”

I was there in the seats down the side, a bizarre goal but all part of being a city fan at the time. If something could go Pete Tong it generally did. I rarely missed a game back then, they were the halcyon days! Gave my mum a bit of rent and the rest of my wages went on ale and touring the country everywhere with the blues, great times. We were all doing the same thing, transit vans with ten lads in the back or the rattler to the aways. I went to Italia 90 that year as well and was behind the goal when Waddle skied that penalty over the bar! Great times lads, what a rollercoaster it’s been watching the mighty blues. Fabulous.

Coton was City's playmaker fot a while with everyone passing the ball back to him and hom giving a big left footed boot upfield for everyone to chase.
Awful to watch especially from the North Stand as the Kippax was being rebuilt.
Quite a difference to the way we do it now under Pep.

The year the Kippax was being rebuilt, from memory, was the year Brian Horton had his full season in charge and we played some fantastic attacking football. I remember going in the Platt Lane for the first two home matches and we beat Everton and West Ham 3-0 & 4-0. A few months later we beat Ossie Ardiles Spurs side, boasting Klinsmann, Barmby, Dunitrescu, Petrescu 5-2. Great season of football that one.

Was there that day, in the away seats down the side in the upper tier.
What pissed me off is as Dibble had the ball only in one hand it, the ball was deemed to be in play and the goal correctly given. If that's the case what's to stop the keeper holding it one hand to waste time? You could guarantee that the first keeper that tried it would have been booked for time wasting.
