Hadn't heard about the new contract. Slightly surprised at that. As you said, he's not going to want to be back among the "dead men" in the chasing pack. So, if that is the case, the Mercs are going to have to seriously improve that car for next season, as it's a fair distance behind Red Bull.Lewis and Mercedes have already briefed that he’s singing a new deal.

I can’t see him as a midfield clogger in the way Alonso and Vettel are but he’s got a few years fighting at the top in him yet.

I'm starting to think that skipping the last two races might be a good idea.
Have a long off season period like the old days and then be chomping at the bit for the first race next year.
Although I'm a bit worried that next season basically boils down to whether or not Merc can put together a championship contending car again. A Verstappen led Red Bull team is very strong opposition and I feel only Hamilton can run him close out of the current crop of drivers.
