FPL - Fantasy Premier League - 2024/25

Before anyone jumps down my throat or says "Just avoid the thread"...

Just curious, What is it so appealing to play Fantasy Football? Just trying to understand why people play it.

Obviously people are different and like different things in life, It's one game in particular that I just don't get why people play it...

It's massive and literally everyone plays it so there's obviously something incredibly good about it that gets people attention.

I don't understand people celebrating or even a low key celebration when a goal is scored in whatever game saying "Yes, I have him in my Fantasy Team"...Unless you're in with a chance of winning a shit load of money playing for cash with your mates.
Why does it have to be about money.

I've been in and out of it over the last 15+ years. Some leagues I've been in have had a cash pot but I think I enjoy it more without that. Just being in a league with your work mates or whatever is fun. And it gives you a totally different perspective on other teams where you start to appreciate good players in lesser teams.

It's a but of a chore at times keeping your team up to date but mist season I either do well and get more into it or do badly and just spend way less time tinkering. But every summer the deadline looms and I find 20mins to put a team together.

For me personally it would have to be a few quid involved, To be honest even at that I still wouldn't play it. I've tried both playing in leagues that involve money and just for fun.

As I said everyone is different and trying to understand the appeal to it a bit more instead of completely turning my nose up at it.

Cheers for the insight.

It provides a bit of interest in games that you wouldn't give a fuck about otherwise. For instance, I've got Tarkowski in my team, and Everton are playing Wolves today. If he wasn't playing, it would definitely be a "meh" fixture. Plus, it's a bit of harmless fun. And, as you said, lots of people play it. Over 11 million worldwide, I believe. And we don't all wear heavy rimmed glasses, have a centre parting and wear Argyle patterned tank tops with chinos!

I’m in a few leagues , 2 of them £20 entry, 1 is £50 , quite a nice sum if you win it or finish top 3.

But also it does bring loads of added interest to games you wouldn’t otherwise bother watching or looking out for.

I enjoy every Friday just spending 20 mins or so working out my team, transfers , tactics, captain etc

It’s good fun, but I wouldn’t being in a random league with people I didn’t know for no cash prize.

I enjoy the challenge.

Can I finish in the top 10%, or the top 5%, or the top 1%.

I'll finish on 73 this week. Happy with that.

Used my wildcard for next week and made 10 changes

56 and the average right now is 47. I've got 3 points on the bench and no more to play so will finish on 59.

A shitty weak mostly due to my 3x City players. Salad has delivered over half my points.

Fixtures are still a mystery to me. I've a free hit and assman to play. Also have 3x transfers. No idea when to do what.

Ended up on 53 pts. Which is poor, even if it is one pt above the average. Red arrows as far as the eye can see. Salah got 30 of my points. The next best is Timber, with 5 pts. The remaining 6 of my midfield and forward players got a total of 11 pts. And Pep let me down with the AM chip (cost me a - 4 to get him in as well).

How many players have you got for the weekend? Use transfers to get 11 playing players if needed.

Assman I'd probably play in GW31 if I still had it as there's DGW's in 32 and 33.

You can then free hit in 34 which is when the fa cup semi finals are on with either 6 or 8 team's likely to blank.

Brought Haaland back in a couple of days ago. Going to captain him the next 2 weeks. Going to wildcard in 31 so it depends if City gets to the FA cup semi if I keep him longer term or wildcard him out.

3 blanks for me this weekend (VVD, Salah and Isak), but only one free transfer. Might need to deploy the wild card. Maybe Kluivert in for Salah (or Fernandes, though I'm reluctant), Van Hecke for VVD and Wissa for Isak. Nothing set in stone just yet, though;got a couple of days to think about it.

I’ve taken a -4 point hit every gameweek, mainly as an experiment - I’m 4th out of 25 in my league.
