Francis Lee

I bumped into Francis in a car park on Holmes Chapel a few years back, was a bit starstruck but managed to blurt out how I appreciated his efforts all those years ago. He was an absolute gent, stood chatting for a good 15 minutes about City. A feisty individual no doubt, but clearly had a great love for the club.

What mistakes he might have made as an owner were not for the want of trying to do the best for the club. I have no doubt about that.

Was my favourite player absolutely loved watching him play. First game I went to he scored two goals and remember getting a poster of him from the souvenir shop. I have never cheered an opposition goal, but stood up to applaud as many did when he scored against us at Maine Road against Derby. I was in the platt lane right behind the goal he scored in. I was on holiday when the news came through he was going to Derby and remember being so upset. He could still teach our players a thing or two about penalties. Was also surprised how thin he looked. As chairman he was on a hiding to nothing after Swales, but he loves the club. Great player and brings back great childhood memories.
Do you remember the Franny Lee jigsaw.

I just wished to add that though I started the post about Franny, there are other legends who I grew up with like Alan Oakes, Neil Young, Mike Doyle..some of us are old enough to remember them..I just feel that people who have recently supported City, may not know about these guys, and frankly they should..do not want our club to become like the rags..expecting trophies, expecting success when in effect, we in living memory have had two recent peaks..around 1970 and the last few years..footy is cyclical and we will have a downturn at some point..but most of the old guys who experienced shit weekends after losing reguarly will know what I mean..we will still be there with our zimmer frames shit or bust..just hope the new guys coming in understand the history and will still be there..I have taught my two sons and they understand.City are in your genes and as the song says, my father said to me one day is it red or is it Blue..frankly never a discussion in my house. No options, only Blue.
Add on the above 3 and Peter Barnes to Lee,Bell and Summerbee for a Pep team.
Would have loved to have seen Gareth Barry in a Pep team as well.
Another clever underrated player.

Great player. Ferocious shot, superb control, incredibly strong and a very perceptive passer of the ball. So confident as a player that when selected for England he instantly produced his club form as if to say this is where I belong. I remember well the long drawn out saga of his transfer for what was it, £60k. He was the final piece needed to complete the 68 jigsaw and what a front 5 that was. I'd been going to games since 59 and Franny, Buzzer and the King was the first time we really really had been able to look any other team in the face for a long long time knowing that we could beat them. Happy days indeed.
