Frank De Boer (new boss?)

This could genuinely be a goer,he fits the criteria/model/vision perfectly, possibly the closest thing to Pep out there.

Obviously,at 42,his experience is limited and we'd be taking a huge chance, however, his time at Ajax proves he's very capable as we witnessed first hand....... I believe Ajax heavily rely on their academy structure also, another large tick in the box!

I'd be more than happy for him to bring Eriksen with him.

Only this

It's hard to evaluate him from just looking at the numbers.

In his first season they won the title back from Twente, but finished with a lot less than points than that year before. They were in 4th when he took over in December and finished 1st, though. They of course sold Suarez that January and got tonked in the Europa League round of 16 (didn't advance in a CL group of death with Real and Milan, but that was with Jol in charge) by Spartak Moscow. Lost in the final of their league cup.

11-'12 they also won the league (96 goals scored), failed to get out of the groupstage again (Real and Lyon) and lost to the rags in the round of 32 (though they ran rings around them at OT).

This year they're ahead by the slimmest of margins in Eridivise and had nearly as bad of a CL run as we did (again, Real and Borussia). Steau knocked them out of the round of 32 easily.

In those years they've lost Suarez, Stecklenburg, Van der Wiel, Vertonghen, and for the most part replaced them with players already at the club (fits Txiki and Soriano's model of promoting from within).

So great in the league, indifferent in Cups, poor in Europe (tough groups every time but no success when dropping into Europa, either).

Haven't seen Ajax aside from our 2 games but perhaps like Laudrup he needs more seasoning before it's time to go to a club in England that wants to win 4 trophies a season.

Thanks for that, a good read for his background

His appointment would make sense..he's good at using his homegrown talent which is evident after they sold Suarez and a number of players and his style of coaching matches the tiki tacky tocky toca whatever the fuck u call it style of passing game and the way he had the team playing this year and against us...assembled a fine team for the limited talent he had...does anyone else think luuk de Jong is really good for his side?

Ajax's squad isn't much better than an 8th-10th place Premier League side especially since the summer sales (they had Liverpool rejects Babel and Poulsen playing against us!), De Boer is doing a really good job and is one of those managers who seems very good at making his team greater than the sum of its parts (something I don't think Mancini has really shown yet at City). They overachieved simply by finishing 3rd in our group although they went out of the Europa League to Steaua (on penalties), the team that nearly knocked Chelsea out.

Of course we don't know how well De Boer would do away from the comfort zone of Ajax but there have been some great Dutch managers, and I'm sure Soriano and Begiristain will examine his managerial ability + potential if they're considering him. I wonder who the Dutch rate more: Koeman or De Boer? Koeman has even fewer resources and has done a good job at Feyenoord. They are both going up against veteran manager Dick Advocaat (PSV) in the Dutch league and there's 1pt between the three teams.

Another day, another relatively obscure manager touted as a replacement for a man who is far more proven.

But perhaps a more obvious fit in terms of footballing culture with the people now overseeing the football and day-to-day business operations of the club.
