fred eyre

Glad I'm not the only one to not rate Fred as a commentator. I've met him and spent some time in his company and he's a sociable fella. However, radio commentary brings out the worst in him. I gave up listening to GMR a while ago, I find they don't really talk about whats going on on the pitch or describe the action particularly well, they get too fixated with minor details, ramble and go on tangents until there's either a goal or a near miss.

Gleghorn's not too bad either. Repeats his main points too much for me but he's generally OK. I only ever really hear him after the games when I'm on my way home, so I don't know about during the game.
ha ha i knew you`d like him

is it really too much to ask these days when the whole of the national media seem to have it in for city and take great delight in raking over any negative issues - to expect a little bit of bias from our local bbc radio station ? that bald twat thomas gets away with it for the rags - why not us . i have no doubt fred is a true city fan - but guess what so am i (have been going for 42 years )and i expect a bit better than the coverage we get at present , if there was an alternative i would listen to that but it would appear there is not .

That's fair enough, if that is what you want to listen to, I suppose. Personally, I want to hear someone's opinion and Fred's is a very well informed opinion. He is a huge blue but tries to be objective in his comments, nowt wrong with that imo. People like Mickey Thomas are an embarrassment, I would cry if Fred went down that road.

the only live commentary i could find last night was bbc radio manchester - had to switch eyre off and listen to talkshite updates instead , he is so negative he is pathetic - what is the problem with the local bbc coverage ? eyre and gleghron are 2 of the most miserable gits i have ever heared in my life . absolutely zero positive comments from either most of the time
didn't gleghorn only play for us for a season or two?......the bloke is a fuckin sunderland fan so why is he on every week, i remember listening to him on the way back from a city-sunderland game a while back after we'd won and he sounded like he was going to fuckin cry because we'd beat his beloved team.....never liked him since that day.

I don't want someone talking rose-scented bullshit, I want a co-comentator who can analyse the game properly.

Other than being comfortable with a microphone in his hand, he has no credible qualifications for providing an "expert" opinion.

Apart from playing the game professionally all his life, being a respected sports author and a lifelong blue, you mean.

Anyway, "qualifications" don't matter a jot in this field. You stand or fall on your ability week to week. And Eyre is well respected amongst football people.

I once met Fred Eyre at a charity cricket match in Hazel Grove. He was not happy that Alex Williams invited me and my brother into the dressing room to 'share' the team beer.

As for his radio co-commentating, it's horses for courses, you can like his style or not but you cannot claim he is anything but 100% city and that his comments aren't generally spot on.

Brian Clarke was my least favourite city radio commentator, he was so bad I even contemplated going to the game myself:-)
