Friendlies - what have we found out?

Seen enough glimpses of class from 3 of the 4 newbies to get excited. Dzeko should not take penalties but I may have change my mind about him.

I still think we need to be looking more incisive around the box and look to score more goals.

We have seen Fernandinho, Negredo and Navas and all look to be good additions, but until we see Agüero and Jovetic in the team I don't think we can pick our best XI yet.

I am dying to see Agüero in this new team to be honest.

AC Milan and hopefully Bayern if we beat Milan next week will be the real test of where we currently are.

If we can come out of the Audi Cup beating both of them teams I think confidence wise we can go far in the Champions League.

Will be a serious statement if we beat Bayern.

I think it's one of the biggest games of the upcoming season even if it is a pre season game.

The confidence in beating arguably the best team in the world at the moment on their home turf will give us huge confidence going into next season, both in the league and Champions League.

Too many changes in fitness, players, and tactics to draw any fair conclusions so far. Let's see where we are after AC and Bayern.

That said, I really want to nail my colours to the mast regarding Silva absolutely having to be in the team over Nasri. Half a match back after his holidays into a new system and still looked head and shoulders the man to make us tick.

It's a ridiculous amount of travel, but I suppose no way around it now since it's so lucrative. Top 5 clubs in England have all gone to the far East this summer, haven't they?

Either way, South Africa to Hong Kong to Manchester to Munich to Manchester to Helsinki and back is one hell of a month of travel

If the Premier League wasn't so money driven now we could have set up a camp somewhere in Europe and played 9-10 games like Bayern have to really implement Pellegrini's ethos, which looks like it could take a while to fully install. But I think progress is being made, just slowly and it's hard on a pitch like the HK one. The Audi Cup games will be important and will require two different starting 11s or 45 minutes for each player per game. Maybe we could squeeze in another friendly between Audi Cup and Newcastle, though without our England internationals who will be away for the Scotland game.
