Watched all 3 (not much fun) but like to see some new blood alongside more established players. Not sure I gained too much insight into who might be able to step up a grade. Vlad was good in patches but always flatters to deceive, Nir B looked a potential find but most of our youngsters looked ordinary.

Youngsters looked ordinary? Did you see Razak last night he was awesome! Lopes has done well.

I stand corrected, but these days I see him more as an established fringe player than a youngster (despite his age) looks a real prospect.

The fact is though mate that he is still only a youngster and to be considered a fringe player at his age just highlights his talent!

Friendly's - what have we found out

I'd say that what we learnt from Al Hilal to Besiktas was that a lot of players started off carrying to much weight, lacking fitness and struggling for match sharpness and by the end of last nights game and 2 weeks training there had been a marked improvement but there is still a lot of work yet to be done preseason. Joe, Micah, Joleon, David, Samir, Jimmy, Nige, Gael and Mario have some catching up to do. Jimmy should be fine, hope the others have started watching themselves in the last week of there jollies.

Re: Is Rekik the reason we have not bought a centre half?

Imagine Kompany out for a couple of months.... Would we win the league? It's the one area that obviously needs strengthening more than any other, yet nobody signed as yet. I know we are shopping at Harrods and with FFP it's not easy, but could it be the kid is ready already?

He's exceptional for his age but a risk?
No he´s not the reason, Mancini will sign another CB. Lest we forget Rekik hasen´t played a minute in PL/CL yet so we don´t really know how good he really is. But he´s a natural and hopefully in 1-3 years he can challenge for the 3spot CB or a place in the starting line-up.

We have just been reminded that they are nothing more than about getting fit.

Is Rekik the reason we have not bought a centre half?

No, I really want Rekik to succeed, been keeping an eye on him in particular for a while now and he certainly appears to have what it takes. However IMO the reason we have not yet signed CB cover is because Javi Martinez is the solution and getting a deal done for him is not only tricky because of his quality but also his availability. He was a member of the Spanish Euro winning squad and is also in the Spanish Olympic squad, having played a game between tournaments already against Mexico in which he scored the winner. Given these circumstances getting a deal done would take a while.

I agree mate, we'll definitely strengthen with a centre half and look to develop Rekik more through Carling Cup appearances.

I pay very little, if any, attention to anything that ever happens before the Premier League season kicks off because it matters not. It's all about fitness and using a full XIvXI game style as part of the progression of fitness. It doesn't matter who plays well, who plays poorly or what the score is.
