Friendlies - what have we found out?

Abdul razak is going to be a star if he is developed properly. Some good loan spells will really help him imho

That we need to new CH'S and move Kompany up the pitch with a finish like that

Re: Friendlies - what have we found out?

Sky loving pointing out the fact that we had yet to win or score after the 1st 2 meaninless bar fitness/rotation friendlies.
Then after yesterdays win they had to throw in "1st win in 3 games" and when showing the 2 goals throw in "1st goals in pre season" as if it mattered.

Not being picky, just found it quite funny how low Utd PR Sky need to resort

Pure eutopia but maybe at some stage for centre backs to be as comfortable in midfield as defence and vice versa so that along with the defensive midfield player they could float between the two. If we had both De Rossi and Martinez in the side along with Kompany would it really matter who the centre backs or midfield holding plays actually were if they were excellent at both jobs. (wakes up)

Yesterday looked like a bit of a rehearsal for the CL - more patient , more measured approach and picking our moments, not going full on and falling for the sucker punch
Don´t know just seemed that way albeit a meaningless friendly

You're bang on mate but watch out, Pidg will be after you...;-)

One thing the friendlies have shown me again is that without an in-form playmaker we can really struggle to create chances. It happened last season a fair bit after Silva's form dipped and so did ours (mostly on the road), we had loads of the ball but created very little, that happened in the friendlies especially the first two games where over 180 minutes only Weiss had a decent chance that I can remember. It isn't overly concerning as Silva is to come back and there is Nasri who showed good signs of improving last season, but it does make me want more alternatives for creativity in the squad like a deep-lying playmaker and at least one very good winger as Johnson does not offer nearly enough for a team that aspires to be on the level of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The friendlies have also showed that we have some very talented young players but that they can only be played in moderation and mixed in with a strong base of established players. When we brought the entire EDS team on in the first two games we looked a mess but when we mixed some of them in with players like Yaya to guide them, they were able to play with more confidence and played quite well. Nir Biton is definitely worth a contract because even if he doesn't turn out to be good enough he looks like he could be sold at a profit so it's win/win. Razak was very patchy and quite clumsy at times but when he grew into the game yesterday was really impressive and is quite a dynamic midfielder. George Evans also impressed me, it was evident by his promotion to EDS games having barely turned 17 (the Suarez/Rekik treatment) that he made a lot of progress for the 18s last season but his passing yesterday was very good and he is combative (but went over the top with that nasty foul on Fernandes). And Rekik has already been well discussed, I think we all agree we have someone very special here who already looks like he could be first team ready at the age of 17.
