Fulham (H) - FA Cup Round 4 Post-Match Thread

It wasn’t a poor point. People going on about how Mancini got us but Pep doesn’t is one that is often repeated and one that I disagree with.
The mention of Pearce was just trying to show how daft I think the comparisons are.
Nothing to do with success.

Why use Pearce as your point then?

Mancini had a much better connection with the fans. Don’t get me wrong I’d rather have Pep every day but it is possible to separate the success from the respect for the club and fans.

Manchester City have a fiercely loyal fan base and a proud history. Pep has, on several occasions, had digs at both.

I love the man for what he’s done but similarly to Yaya, just on a much lesser scale as Yaya obviously is and has done much much worse, that aspect just leaves a little bit of a sour taste, only a little.

He’s still the greatest manager we’ve ever had and I hope he stays for 10 years.

Ultimately I think he's always thought he's better than the club. Comes across in many things he says.

Brilliant manager and still seems a very decent guy but you're right - won't be able to evoke the same kind of emotion someone like Mancini did/can. It was a criticism of his at Bayern too IIRC.

Mancini had the 'benefit' of building on nothing. We hadn't won owt for decades, he turns up and we win the first pot. He was always gonna have a place in City hearts no matter what, and Guardiola was always expected to achieve what he had achieved in Spain and Germany. I think Pep is the only manager of the last three who could have delivered the City fans the last two seasons.

What’s sarcastic about it?
Interviewer asks the question - "Pep, you know how we like to bang on about this ground not being full, so with that in mind and in view of your comments about there being too many (irrelevant) matches each season, considering that this was an early game on a Sunday in an early round of the cup, which was also screened live on terrestrial TV and that the opposition didn't bring a lot of away fans to fill their allocation, are you surprised that the attendance was quite low?"
Pep answers - "No, I have no idea why it was so low"

BUT I WILL ADD THAT....

"If you come to a more important game later this week, I bet you won't be able to ask me that particular stupid question then, so you've not got many days to come up with a different stupid question for then. OK? Interview done? Can I go and talk to my players now to tell them how well they've done?"

When the opposition fans arrive in half a dozen coaches you are not going to get a sell out. As others have said 3pm on Saturday would have been better, also Chinese New Year celebrations going on in town at the same time would not have helped. Basically a training exercise for the second string, and giving a lot of players a well deserved rest. Took my wife who enjoyed it immensely so I am definitely in her good books.
