Gabri Veiga

Yeah I love this type of signing mate as he’s not cheap enough to be a CFG signing? Looks a talent and the perfect time to bring him in to let pep work his magic! It would save us potentially trying to sign him in a year or two for double the money? I’m sure I read that peps brother is now his agent as well? So he has a release clause which we love and the managers brother as his agent, can’t see it being too difficult lol
Me too. We have had an absolute ball for a decade, but the great managers can, and do, rebuild when they need to. With Gundo, Bernardo and Laporte likely to leave, and KDB approaching 32, the time is right. Perone, Veiga, Bellingham, Foden, Grealish, Rodri looks like it could be moving into position. If that becomes a longer-term central midfield, we will be looking at wingers more than central positions, and that makes more sense to me. I don't think we will be able to hold back Ndala from breaking through - he is too talented for that - and Palmer will be staking a claim, I hope. I am not sure about Borges and Mebude, but next season could be their chance as Ndala is just 16.

The big surprise this season for me is the form of Palmer. We all thought this could be his breakthrough season, but he's been disappointing when given the opportunity to impress.

I also don't get why Pep's played him centrally too. Hopefully he'll get an extended run out wide so we can properly assess if he has a long term future with us.

He has said that season has been hard on him. You just have to trust that your manager is going to do the best for you. If you don't feel that's the case, then you just have to go elsewhere. He is only young, and Mahrez is not going to be around forever. Next season, with Gundo and possibly Bernardo leaving, it is not inconceivable that Foden and Grealish may be used more centrally. If that happens, then Palmer has an opportunity to stake his claim to the wings. I hope he can, and does, because I think he is a very talented player. I hope that he has the drive and ambition to make it happen too.

I truly hope it works out for him here. It's up to Palmer to step up & prove himself. For whatever reason, I feel like he's squandered that opportunity this season, but like you say, he's young & will hopefully be afforded time.

Just watched the video ( I know I also saw the Bony one )
However this guy looks amazing
I think I would prefer him to Bellingham if you could only have one

Do you think he looks slow? Looks pretty quick to me. I think it’s hard to tell with CMs sometimes if they’re fast. Sometimes they can be deceptively fast e.g KDB. I don’t think Mahrez or Grealish are what you would call ‘quick off the mark’, not in comparison to say ‘Sterling’ or ‘Haaland’.

I have some insight into the player though. Right now, he isn’t as successful with dribbling in the wide areas, as he is in the centre. I would say he’s more suited to the number 8 role/ box to box. So we’re thinking more like Gundogan, or Bellingham. Not necessarily players you’d play on the wing.

To give some comparisons with other top mids in La Liga. His successful progressive runs in the midfield are above average in the league, but his progressive passes, are middle of the road. Take them both into consideration, he fairs better at progressive runs and passes than Gavi. But less so compared with Pedri, and a lot less compared with Frenkie Dejong. When it comes to the two Madrid CMs, Modric and Kroos, he’s absolutely no way near with progressive runs and passes. What’s interesting though, is he really excels highly with touches in the opposition box, compared to other mids. In fact, he has had more touches in the opposition box than all the players just mentioned, apart from, Gavi. But defensively, he also fairs better than Gavi and Modric too, however, he doesn’t fair as well in comparison to Pedri, Dejong or Kroos.

In summary, he’s a good young player, and we’ll probably play him at left back.

Rapid enough to track Salah (who is very quick) for 80m or so and put in a tackle.
