Gabriel Jesus 2018-19 performances

Watching from side on, he's two yards quicker now than he was when he came back from injury.

That's what this is all about: injuries, the time it takes to recover & the effect that has on the confidence of a young kid, in a foreign country.

He is now starting to run with the ball like he did in Brazil & I suspect he'll start to score a few more golazos of various kinds as time goes on.
I noticed too he is running with the ball like he used to in Brazil...this ,basically is a bad bad sign for defenders over here cos he has a lot more tricks up his sleeve ,aligned to his sublime ball control, than he has shown since being over here...

This lad has crazy potential, which some of us could see from day 1....

And his bravery should not be understated too..ive watched proper hard core defenders b ack in brazil kick lumps out of him,and also at international level, when he was no more than a kid he took a battering, but led the Brazil forward line with some aplomb, never once hiding...and in fact, even as a kid openly wanted to mix it with older tough defenders...
What a player we have in our midst....taking nothing away from Sergio's undoubted right to be labelled our No.1 striker.

I think people forget he didn’t come through the Arsenal academy, he was nowhere near gabs potential at the same age or have his numbers...

The penny may drop for people soon enough but fuck a duck, he has the potential to put numbers up that may take years to get near...

He’ll be the best striker in the world by the time he’s 25!!

At 21, in his first season at Arsenal, Henry scored 26 goals.

He could be very good, he could be better, but I think people are over hyping his scoring abilities. To say Henry wasn't putting in numbers at Jesus' age isn't correct as of now and to move forward he's got a big goal output to match there. In fact, at the same stage of their careers, Jesus is about 14 goals better off (fair play). Some stat checking wouldn't go amiss.

To be honest, as good as Jesus is, he won't ever become the best striker in the world with Mbappe around.

Maybe the best in the PL though ;-)

Disagree, he’s playing at a higher level already, domestically... watch this space

Jesus is never going to have Mbappé's pace, but everything else that puts Mbappé ahead of every other young striker is just stuff he's developed early. That makes him a phenomenon as a teenager, but others will catch up when they get to 21/22/23 and those skills come in normally.

Pretty much every teenage sensation gets caught up. When Aguero was carrying Atletico Madrid at Mbappé's age, no one had heard of Luis Suarez, or Robert Lewandowski. Would you be upset if Jesus turned out like those two? At the age Rooney was the world's most expensive teenager, Falcao was still in River Plate's academy and Cavani was playing for Danubio in Uruguay.

Gabby hasn't exploded like Mbappé did, but he's been incubating under Pep's guidance, learning from the best manager in the world, and from one of the best strikers of the previous generation and I'm sure he will reap the benefit of that later in his career.

Henry was an incredible footballer - that first season at Arsenal was his 6th professional season of football, his 4th with over 40 appearances.

However, I would say how many goals would Gabby have scored if he started every week? Henry got 17 league goals.

Gabby still managed 13 league goals in his first full season despite missing 3 months with a knee injury and only starting 19 games.

Give him the game time Henry had, and I'm sure he'd have scored more.

Apologies for nitpicking but didn't Henry turn 22 around the time he signed for Arsenal?

What @domalino said...

His minutes to game ratio is way above but anyway, let’s enjoy what we have!

After a fitful start, he’s looked sharper and sharper this season. Good turn of pace, better awareness, and once he starts tucking away one on ones on a regular basis, we’re gonna have some player on our hands. Been really impressed with him lately. Tough little bugger as well

Agreed. But I'd put Mbappe in Messi and Ronaldo territory of potential, which nobody can really compete with.

That's not taking anything away from Jesus and I'm confident he's going to be major player in his own right.
